Re: Ribbon help!

Blade wrote: Other information......I changed the impedance of the mic from 250 to 15000 and it seemed to help, but it also changed the sound of the mic. The sound became brighter.
Leave it at 250. At 1.5K you are losing bass due to loading down the mic, as the impedance of your preamp will be around 2K.

Joel, how are you running your 7151? Ie. what circuitry do you have inside yours?

Also, how are you finding your Echolette Top12? I have one, but I need to replace the capsule....

Steinberg "Quadrafuzz" is definitely the best, and most useful plugin I have ever heard.

It is absolutely awesome on things like drums, and can do nasty things to synths, etc. It never seems to sound digital, unlike most plugins which I find unimpresive.

The grill just pushes on with a tight fit. Lift it off with a small blade screwdriver. Get something which you can hold in your hand which has a ball-shaped end roughly half the size of the beyer grill. Push the ball-shaped implement into the inside of the grill to push the dent out. Put teh grillba...

Can someone provide a schematic or at least the voltages provided by the supply? I'm thinking you can probably just buy a cheap Chinese p/s from the great microphone group-buy and have someone wire an RS232 to the end of the cable. Otherwise, you could also buy a cheap Chinese tube condenser and jus...

This is exactly what I thought..... I also can't figure out what the (Sony C37?) in between Steve (guitar) and Todd (drums) is doing?

I think some of you have gone a bit over the top with this one. It's Myspace - most people listen on computer speakers! As far as bitrates go, I don't think I've heard anything on there which sounds like 128Kb/s - more like 64Kb/s! 128 usually doesn't sound too bad. I think anything over 160Kb/s wou...

I have re-ribboned them too. Basically, I am of the opinion that it is best to have a "special" Beyer ribbon. The reason being, Beyer really knew what they were doing when they designed these mics. The reason the ribbons are stiffened using these lateral corrugations is to reduce resonance which is ...

Re: got my first tube amp. FRUSTRATING!

I'm a 17 year old that only knows the basics about this kind of thing. Thanks! -Russell. Find a good tech. I overlooked that sentence. My apologies. Although having said that, I was learning with tube amps when I was 15 or 16. Just keep yourself safe - no point in risking your life for a tube amp!

I reckon it has little impact on the sonic qualities of the mic.

I do think that it well help avoid popping for vocals though (like the pencil trick) as it will break up the air moving.

It also holds the two mesh grill sections together.

Just buy a phantom power supply.

Make sure it is 48V - that's all.

Try and stick with good quality as it could potentially affect the sound. Beyer look as if they make decent ones which pop up on Evilbay now and again.

I thought this was the DIY forum..... However, if you don't knwo what you're doing, then use a tech.

I didn't mention unplugging and discharging because I thought this was obvious.

Good luck,
