+1 on the Octave Plateau Cat.

my Cat SRMII is my favorite weird old monosynth. You can do astounding things with cross modulation of oscillators. Not the slightest bit tame.

One thing to be aware of with the PAIA stuff is that, unlike most analog synth stuff, it is not 1 volt/octave. this is only an issue when you are interacting with other controllers or systems.

Hey, maybe that clacking sound is just the oscillator oscillating at a really low frequency! It would be hard to figure what was the matter if it's not working, the kit could have been built incorrectly and never worked. The best thing to do would be to acquire the schematics and go through the circ...

If you have an external firewire drive you can use disk utitiy to make an image of your HD and then boot from the external disk.
Other than that your left with bit torrent!

A patch editor ala unisyn is a heck of a lot better than trying to program thru the front panel.

I'm sure it's all true, but it's a very specific reality we are living when we must in fact have the actual specific hardware, D to A converters, line amps etc of basically digital synth for authenticity.
Anyone satisfied with the Native Instruments variety ITB?
I've never thought to do a comparison.

Hey, I own an an Octave Plateau cat as well. Probably anyone with some skills could do what you mentioned, it's not hard and you wouldn't need a schematic to identify and resolder a pot.
Anything more complicated that than, you might need to find a synth tech with schematics.

How any type of noise reduction sounds is kind of determined by how well the deck itself and the noise reduction is set up. On Cassette, azimuth errors introduced by the shell the tape is in may also have an effect. Typically, you lose high frequency clarity and transient response on cassette tape a...

Effects pedal replacement foam

This is kind of lo-tech but... Just pulled all the old crumbly foam out of my old MXR dist+ (circa 1977). Can anyone suggest a good replacement insulator (so the circuit board won't touch the case, pots or switch) that mightr be a handy thing a person might have around. I've never thought too much a...
