Vorian is close here, but not quite right. A true parody would be a species of derivative work that ought to fall under the "fair use" exception to copyright infringement. A performance of someone else's song is subject to mechanical licensing at a compulsory rate, but this does not apply to derivat...

They seem to be pretty well-liked around here; the key is that they sound pretty good for the price.

Note that you'll probably need an extension cable, as the included one is pretty short. They're ugly, too.

But for semi-disposable headphones, I can't think of anything better.

Just ran across this post; I vaguely know some of those guys, and the studio did indeed close down. My band nearly used the space for rehearsal for a while after that, and another one did. I hear it's now a studio again, but some kind of private major-label affair. It was owned by Rob del Bueno from...

Again, it is energy well-spent on a simple means of protecting the possibility of getting paid in an admittedly unlikely situation. Do you know what the best thing about having a good contract is? You can use it over and over and over. Once he's done this research and drafted something - maybe a few...

Those last two points are good, especially Aquaman's - publishing is always where the money is. We should be clear about copyright, though: It doesn't make sense to say the rapper's not going to "go out and copyright anything." One doesn't need to go out and do anything to acquire a copyright. Inste...

Wow. I will avoid commenting about any of this except to point out that Obama and his campaign have done nothing to attack this man in any way (as you claim).

WAY TOO MUCH WORK. I could not disagree more - it always makes sense to protect your rights, especially when it's very easy to do. And let me clarify: To have a solid contract that you can feel confident relying on in court, you ought to have a lawyer. But to have a contract at all, you certainly d...

My understanding is that big-time producers charge (huge) flat one-time fees for the tracks and sign over the copyright entirely. This model wouldn't work for you, though - you need some contract clause that allows you to charge a reasonable rate but be able to cash in if there's a big success. That...

The High Dials are amazing - they impressed me enough at an Atlanta show a couple of years ago that I let them crash at my apartment. Recommended!

Hmm, I might have to try the Mouser part, though I really don't want anything mismatched. I guess I could pretend they're modded channels or something. Thanks for the responses, but I'd still love to find some real ones - and I'd pay handsomely, too (at least for 5 plastic knobs). Say $5 each plus s...

I think these last couple of points are great, and it's important to consider approaching this from a different perspective. I know people who make a living engineering in smaller towns, and they can do this because they live in small towns where the cost of living is low. It can be a great attracti...

WTB: Soundcraft 600 parts

Having had no luck with Soundcraft or Ebay, I'm now hoping somebody around here has some parts lying around. What I really really want right now is very simple: 5 red knobs for a 600 Series (the gray knobs w/ red tips). I'd be interested in any other available parts, too, but the knobs are impossibl...

I think this is Malkmus' best solo work thus far - to me, he's finally come into his own (or convinced me that he can be almost as good as pavement was without being pavement). And to me, this album's a sleeper - didn't grab me right away, but over time it's become one of my favorites. Kinda like Pa...

Wow, I'd love to hear about both these Wilco records and Rather Ripped, all of which sound great. And the new Malkmus is my favorite new record - his best solo outing for sure. I read somewhere they recorded all over, but did some of it in Wilco's loft. Yeah, this TJ seems to have come from nowhere ...
