That can be fudged if you are clever.
Jim, you and I could fudge it and make it work. Most people would have a tough time.

Also, does Logic draw and store the waveform profile (like I know Reaper, SoundForge, and Windows other apps I use do) or does it have to draw it fresh each time? Logic stores a waveform preview of some sort. I would like to see a DAW, other than Cool Edit Pro, that actually applies a sinc filter t...

Re: Why would a cd sound distorted on only some cd players?

Some years ago I received a copy of a Yo-Yo Ma cd as a gift. At the time, I didn't listen to it. Yesterday, while digging through some boxes, it turned up again. Upon popping it in the computer and pressing play, here's what I got: http://soundcloud.com/dfuruta/10-chiran-bushi . Turn down your volu...

if i go into the 4 track with a quarter inch instead of an xlr it bypasses the pres completely or just to a greater degree? On pretty much all devices that have an XLR jack and a 1/4" jack feeding the same channel, then the 1/4" jack feeds the preamp, just like the XLR, except that the 1/4" input w...

Re: Variable Impedance Circuit between Mic and Preamp?

I am interested in the possibility of building a passive circuit to go between my mics and preamps that would allow me to adjust impedance for different tones. Is this a good idea/possible? Anything you put in front of the preamp works with the preamp. If you're really into doing this, dig out the ...

Ooooh, sockets.

Sockets suck. Especially when gear gets jostled.

Sockets have no business being in production gear.

Thanks for asking.

PCI is on it's way out. But you can search on Newegg.com for motherboards that have at least 2 PCI slots. Another problem...make sure those slots are "native" PCI. Most these days are not: http://semiaccurate.com/2010/08/19/intels-p67-h67-and-h61-chipsets-will-lack-native-pci-support/ "INTEL?S NEXT...

I would suggest unloading the cards and moving on, PCI hasn't been easily available on computers for at least a few years now, so it's time to let it go, as many owners of UAD 1 and older Pro Tools HD systems can tell you. I will argue with you about the availability of PCI slots in new computers. ...

If they're in parallel, then still, each LED needs a current limiting resistor.

Re: Mic splitter for recording/auditioning preamps?

MicOp: Had thought about this a while back, but had also forgot about it. Recently saw the Manley MicMaid in a catalog, which jogged the memory... There's probably going to be "some" signal loss, but has anyone used a mic splitter (not a y-cable) to run one microphone into two different preamps? I'...

I believe the guys at Izotope came up with a hardware solution to reduce broadcast noise. I don't think it uses phase canceling, but you can read more about it here: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/anrb/ -Mark The Izotope box is called an "Adaptive Real-time Noise Reducer," which implies that...
