Two free passes!
I know there's only a week until the conference, but it looks like SCA is going to wind up with two extra passes. If anyone (maybe local?) still needs them at this late date, send me a PM.

Thanks very much for considering the SCA kits. While I haven't had the opportunity to evaluate the JLM kits in person, they appear to be a perfectly reasonable approach to a simple transformer-coupled, op-amp based preamp. However, there are a number of technical differences between the JLM "baby an...

I think the real problem will be finding too much information, not too little. Start here: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com.

I mean that the N72 is just not as special as a mic pre at - large. This is, of course, just one man's opinion. If you think it would be useful, you can find many statements to the contrary by searching at Gearslutz and other boards. Judging from the seeminigly unquenchable demand and the feedback ...

Since the 7602 is a 1073 clone, it probably has a single-ended +24V supply. The A12 (also the C84 and J99) needs a bipolar supply between +/-18V and +/-35V, plus +48V for phantom. If I'm assuming correctly, the only SCA module that would work with the 7602 supply is the N72 (with its onboard regulat...

It sounds like the switcher doesn't terminate its unselected outputs. What happens if you short the inputs to the RA300? I suspect the noise will disappear. A properly designed switcher should have a low output impedance at all of the outputs, even when they're not active. That keeps the amps quiet,...

I've had a few of those apart, but it's been a long time so I can't give you anything but some general info. I seem to recall the disc is spun by a little synchronous motor of the sort that used to be in electric clocks. If it's not spinning, it's probably the bearings or a burned out field winding....

Another possibility is to use a +24v supply and change the 560R resistor to a larger value that will still give you +18v where you need it. From Ohm's law (R = E / I), we know that about 3.6mA is flowing in the resistor. If we want the same amount of current to flow with a +24v supply, we'd need a b...
