Alot of the newer Marshalls get a little slammed here and elsewhere. I don't know. I've heard great things about the tone of the reissues (1987x, JCM-800), not so great things about the reliability (mostly hearsay). It's really difficult to find an old marshall that hasn't been "modded" with those f...

Jan Hammer used to send his moog through a Marshall (maybe he still does). A while ago I put a quadrasynth through my Marshall half-stack (a mid late 70's super 100 watt), and it did the trick, although you had to turn it up ridiculously loud. It actually made some of the cheezy organ patches sound ...

Re: j

I keep reading about Vista and this stupid DRM (digital rights management) that Microsoft put in it's OS at the beheast of the entertainment industry, which is one step in the direction of taking the fun out of Windows, and making watching porn videos and listening to mp3's more tedious. I guess the...

True, I've never supported any computer other than my own (except for my brother, and dad, and a few friends). As I said, there are a bunch of people who are dumb enough to do things everybody warns them against, e.g., opening an attachment in their emails, or loading up an executable file that they...

Ditching your plugins

I just went out and bought a Nord Electro 2 rack for organ/vintage keyboard sounds, even though I felt I could get slightly better sounds in virtual instruments for cheaper, and I don't regret it. I felt like a burden was lifted off of my shoulder, freeing me up from my computer and these silly lice...

Say what you want about the NT-1, but I like it alot for some vocals (I've got the original NT-1, not the 1-A). I prefer it over the other admittedly limited choice of LDCs that I own on certain things (414 ULS, NT-K). I'm sure you can find better mics, but for less than 200 new, I've spent alot mor...

If I were about to go into the studio business for money, I'd be thinking about getting away from recording bands and more about offering some unique service that's somewhat in demand. If I knew what it was, I'd be doing it, but some ideas -- specializing in helping bands establish a web presence (m...

I still think the only reason this band gets any attention at all is the rest of the music scene is so bad in a pretty enormous way. In a good year, this band would have disappeared into oblivion in about five seconds.

I hope you're not talking about that awful Neil Young cover I just heard on the radio the other day -- something about the war in Iraq and how bad Bush is. What a bunch of crap. Why can't these fat, belching, middle-aged old farts play some good old fashioned drunken idiot redneck, wife-beating rock...

I was watching a show on Cream, and they had an interview with Clapton where he said he actually went deaf for a week or so because they played so loud. You'll probably know pretty soon.

Just kidding. They're okay. I'm not that crazy about there music, but they all play decently enough, although the songs don't really push the envelope in any way, and they sort of bring back stuff like Bad Company or the Allmans that I'd rather not hear again in any form.
