Did you say the power of the amp? I missed it. Kinda doesn't matter... Assume 50W across a 4 Ohm speaker. That's about 14V. 14V through 50K of divider resistance is 4mW. Those resistors will be fine, I'd think. Effective impedance through the transformer will be much greater, so almost nothing dissi...

The manual says to connect to the output of the volume pedal, which leads me to believe that all it wants is a variable resistance between the tip and sleeve of the cable. This should work exactly the same with any make/model of volume pedal, but most expression pedals should be doable as well. As l...

Yep. The soundguy in me just hates everything about this proposal. It sucks in your practice room and it will suck on stage. Even if you go to an iso cab or pedals, it's still gonna suck. It might almost work if the distortion is only coming out of the FOH, while any on-stage monitoring is clean, bu...

It's usually not too terrible difficult to hack an expression jack into a pedal, but there are a lot of ifs in there, and of course, it might screw up collectibility or resale value. Alan from Low/RGC just tapes little plastic "flags" onto the knobs themselves so he can tweak them with his toes. It ...

they also sound better than almost anything if you turn them up. Yeah, but have you ever tried to listen to Rid Of Me driving down the freeway with a mother and her small child? Unless you really want to keep your hand on the V knob, the verses might as well just be silence. That album is always my...

I've heard that you can usually get away with fudging the load impedance by a factor of 2 in either direction without too much worry - especially if you're not cranking everything to 10. It might kinda just be fine...unless something explodes. ;) Do be careful with jacks and/or switches. Best to mak...

Ring mod can make all kinds of nasty dirt. I like really low frequency carriers, but I very much prefer when I can provide both modulator and carrier inputs. Plug the guitar into both inputs for a nasty kind of octave-up fuzz thing. Use a delayed version of the guitar for a variation on that. I also...

It's always the drummers fault! ;) It really comes down to "stage" volume. Imagine if you stood where the mic is and had the vocalist sing into your ear. What do you hear? That is what the microphone will pick up, and what the PA will amplify. If dude has his tongue in your ear and is screaming at t...

So the rocker switches as installed are more likely than not just SPST switches, or at least that's all you would need to replace them. IDK what to tell you about getting more standard toggles into that spot. You really might want to just pull that control plate (and all the original parts on it) al...

...usually between -12 to -6 dBFS RMS, which is fairly hot, it seems... Holy fuck! Ya think? I'm not mixing metal, but I do horrible distorted pure noise all the time and never really come close to -6 overall. I usually get it sounding good and full in Reaper and then bounce and bring it up in Soun...

A lot of those "off brand" guitars in that era were series wired. Teisco (and all the other names that factory put on its headstocks), Danelectro (and all the other names...), Moserite...Scodiddly wrote:Not entirely sure, even though I've rewired the damn thing at least twice. Would make sense, though.

I was going to suggest a rotary myself. I put one in my LP (in the normal spot) for about the same reason. There really isn't chance of it switching from accidentally bumping it. It takes more torque than that, and really needs a rotating motion... In fact, I put a knurled Tele-style knob on there, ...

The 32 bit OSes can't directly work with much more than 3G of RAM, but the only time that becomes a problem for me is when I do stupid things with massively multi-sampled VSTis. Five or six separate instances of EZDrummer or Addictive Keys will get ugly... But more modern mother boards will let you ...

My studio machine is only a couple years old, but I run XP32 with Reaper and SoundForge and I really can't imagine upgrading. Honestly, since all audio gets in and out of the thing via an old PCI card that is no longer supported, I don't think I could upgrade if I wanted to. My live machine is a lap...
