I've been listening to a ton of music lately that's new to me... only a handful have been from this century, but so far the one I like best that was made since 2000 is Blut Aus Nord's "The Work that Transforms God" (2003). I don't know if it's foundational or a masterpiece, but it's really good. I'...

Before that the last time I warmed up the iron was to take half the cables from a 8 channel TRSM>XLRM snake and convert them to pseudo-balanced. Unfortunately, all of those buzz really badly with every source I've tried so far. Not sure what the deal is there, but I haven't bothered to try to sort ...

Jim: very impressive specs from a tube pre! Is it something you're still thinking about doing commercially? Would love to see a schematic if not. ubertar: that fuzz is nutty! would you be willing to elaborate a bit on that guitar's construction? i've been looking for a movable fret guitar myself, ac...

These bars are surplus from a company that made Orff instruments - got them from a friend who didn't want them. Put together a quick frame out of PVC pipe. Looks terrible, but the sound is nice and mellow.

Latest thing you've built?

Following the "Latest gear you've acquired" thread, what's the most recent thing you've been working on? I'll start with a couple. Here's a DI box I made recently for bass guitar: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1531/26294903341_b6799c64e4_z.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1638/26268760242_9774fef...

electret elements often have an integrated buffer, so a capacitance reading won't be helpful. raw condenser elements are under 100pF, generally (thus the high impedance nature of the surrounding circuitry). might be easier to go the other way: (carefully) inject signal at the capsule and see if the ...

here is a mixcube style project. haven't seen so many speaker projects. i know there's a section on diyaudio - they tend to be more hifi oriented (and, half the time, nutty audiophiles). it does seem rather more complicated than mic preamps, but maybe that's just because many of us doing diy gear k...

actually, unless i'm missing something, don't the LT parts and 317/337 have equal line/load regulation? from the datasheets they look the same...ripple rejection looks the same too?

the lt parts offer greater current capacity, but that wouldn't be necessary here
