Re: Oscilloscope fun
can you use oscilloscopes to determine variable r c circuit time constants??? With a digital oscilloscope with a 'hold' function it is pretty easy to view the discharge curve and pick off the time constant. With an analog scope you need to have the circuit periodically charging and discharging the ...

Re: Recording piano in university practice room CREATIVE
The biggest problem of portability would be managing a microphone stand. This is ghetto, but if you want a dirt cheap, half-assed microphone stand that will fit in a backpack with room to spare, here is what I recommend. Musiciansfriend.com has a little music stand for $5.99 that collpases to be ab...

Re: Anyone going to AES?
Thanks supafuzz! The passes are an 'exhibits-only pass', but I'll gladly take it. I wouldn't have enough time to hit all the talks I'd want to see anyways.

Re: FLAC audio file format?
I'm not sure how much use FLAC has inside a studio environment, as it takes some CPU cycles to convert back to the uncompressed waveforms. I don't think many people would want to trade DAW performance for diskspace. It is definately a good format for sending out finished mixes, or transfering large ...

I'm going to try to answer your question about it being 'cheating', but I might get in over my head a little bit -- its been a few years since I've taken a signal processing class. There are different topologies of filters that can be used to seperate the various...

Re: Anyone going to AES?
I'm not planning on going to AES unless I manage to find a free pass, as I'm a poor grad student. However I wouldn't mind meeting up with some Tape Op people. I think the best place to meet up might be the Hotel Utah Saloon. It is at 500 4th st at Bryant, about 3 blocks due south of the convention c...
