I get this too right now. Is the splice tape too thick? Is the splice curved because I'm too cheap to get a splicing block and did the splice on the kitchen table?
I think it's the splice tape, personally, but I just used what I had around....

Re: FS: Sound Workshop 1280 and mic pres
use google groups to search rec.audio.pro I think sx202 + monte will get you there fast. There are a couple of threads where he has it all laid out like an instruction manual. It's a pretty straightforward process, if a little labor intensive, and it may or may not be a pain to get the chips he sugg...

FS: mixer sold, mic pres still available
Hi- Clearing out stuff I'm not using right now..... I have pics of everything upon request. Soundworkshop 1280 with meter bridge and the 12-ch expander. The main unit has 8 of the fancy eq's. Everything works, in decent condition. Best offer on this one, I don't honestly know what it's worth. 2x OSA...

Re: Gear Design... Graduate School?
umm, don't cold-call an engineer at work if the company is large enough to have a receptionist. If you call the sales line at Old School and Dale answers the phone, that's okay, but anything more than that prob. isn't a good idea. Cold e-mailing is fine--you'd be surprised at how many people actuall...

Re: Gear Design... Graduate School?
Jajj, are you currently employed in an architectural/acoustical/engineering field? Neal, isn't Tektronix or Intel hiring? Nice compensation, nice o-scopes in the lab, and you'd have the great bennies and some free time to roll your own gear.... There are DIY communities around that have a lot of int...

Re: Gear Design... Graduate School?
by the way, there are some grad programs doing serious audio research, not "gear design" per se, but serious audio research nonetheless.... CCRMA, MIT Media Lab, I think RPI has some psychoacoustics (maybe more related to architecture, though), Fraunhofer is kicking ass right now with the 3-d stuff,...

Re: Gear Design... Graduate School?
Not trying to be difficult, but what kind of "serious gear" do you want to work on? Some examples maybe? Something out there that just blows your doors off technically? Maybe the following questions might help to focus... (I"m a EE and I'm just trying to help, I swear) Are you a hacker type? Did you...

Re: Gear Design... Graduate School?
Generally speaking, an MSEE/PHD course would definitely help for DSP, psychoacoustics, and IC design, IMHO. Read the JAES and see who's researching what. Hopefully you have a student chapter who can get you in. For less involved hardware and software, why not just roll your own? Lots of DIY groups o...

Re: Reeally Slow Attack Time on my RNCs...Anyone Else?
I normally use the supernice mode for voxes.
One thing I noticed is that if you're more than 2 led's down on Supernice, things start to get a little weird. But in normal operation, it has always worked as advertised. Def. not a drum-smasher for me, tho
