the chinese garden is very nice in december. if you package it up as a visit/tea/lunch, it will cost you about $20 a head. that sounds like it might be a hair over budget. but they have great lunch food, amazing tea served in a set for a kung fu movie the size of a city block. http://www.portlandchi...

i think the riser will need to be isolated from the drums as well. the more mobile and light the structure, the more i fear it will resonate from the drums. oh, and some plywood, a router and these http://www.vxb.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bearings&Product_Code=Kit8601&Categor...

do you have a lot of outboard pres of mediocre quality? do you record more than 2 channels at a time? i think getting something like a focusrite pro40 and selling your motu and selling all but your best pre might be an interesting choice. would smooth your workflow. you would get the marginal differ...

i think this test proves that summing for the sake of summing, and passing signals through hi fi preamps that aren't being pushed, is a game of millimeters.

7 has some sort of different phase relationship than the other ones. my guess is that its some sort of hardware phase fuck up that sounds good. the rest of them seem to have very very very minor differences in soundstage and tonal balance. i really don't have a favorite out of the rest of the six. i...

i remember a particularly juicy smackdown that mark mcq gave "soundguy dave" on here many years back about the RNC. it all came down to dave preferring colored gear, but he couldn't articulate it. so he said a bunch of dumb stuff that could be pretty well objectively refuted. if he actually understo...
