i've been digging this recently. with that drive knob there, it might as well be a tapey/analogy simulation.

If there's a way to really hone in on those spikey attack frequencies from the loudest kick drum notes, that's what you want to pull back, so that the quiet notes sounds more like the loud notes. Then, you can start working on the articifial sound (more dialed-in attack, etc) with the kick drum tra...

i am not a huge fan of turning the drive on VW more than 4ish. in fact my favorite setting for that plug in is everything set to zero and just a HAIR of drive.

never touch that treble nob.

I think eeldip is refering to the limit in/out switch which functions as bypass. Out and it's in bypass mode. Depressed and the compression is engaged.. i think i even made a post on here like 6 years ago that said something like, the limiter i can hear, but the compressor is VERY subtle. anyway, m...

take a saturation plug and put it on a track with a pure sign wave. get something like voxengo span to analyze what it does to the pure wave. some saturation plugs add a few harmonics and add a lot of aliasing. look for the nice regular peaks that move in the same direction with the tone when you ch...

a lot of times, i get happier and happier the more distortion i add, then i get happier and happier the more i go back and hit bypass. A CONUNDRUM. i was mixing a couple songs a while back for a friend, and i was totally digging ramming the mix thru a convolution reverb with a "studer +3db" impulse ...

um, tape saturation works decently well. but getting that tapey analogy feel at the very end stage might be the wrong solution.

i feel like you should at least be pretty close with the tone of your record PRE mastering. like how far off are you? any mp3s?

i can't remember exactly, but i actually ran mine for a bit accidently in what is essentially OFF mode for quite some time. mine had a button with some weird logic behind it, and off seemed like on and on like off. it was over on the left... do you have that button? also, as a side note, i found tha...

i have no idea if you can figure out how to find and install it, but pluggo's space echo was actually pretty fun. not sure if it was the perfect emulation, but it hit the right notes. dirty. off key. etc. http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/brand,zzounds/SpaceEcho-1c6bd798ed7c7d678bafda9559c...

cad e300 about a foot from the kick in figure 8 with some dampening behind it.

doesn't work great for dense rock music, not enough punch.

mics and instruments...

computer emulation of hardware is going to get better and better, and the market for esoteric outboard is just going to get smaller and smaller.

dont forget to see if there are any peavy 520i for sale. i got mine for $40 shipped. perfectly good kick mic. its a bit more leaning to the dry punch kick mic like an re20 instead of that punchBOOM thing that the 112 does.
