Re: Silica Gel desiccant packets in the studio?
And phew! Turns out my silica packets are non-indicating, and they are rechargeable. So it appears from the website of my packets' manufacturer, that they're not using any cobalt chloride, since they are non-indicating.

Re: A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things
Yeah! Sounded like a kick drum! hahahha. Needed some body to go with the 91a. My AT 4047 was on the bass cab. It's a tossup to put the 4047 on kick or on bass when I"m tracking them both together. Heading over to your bandcamp page now — anything, in particular, I should listen to as a good example...

Re: A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things
Man, that's gotta be a good feeling. Are we allowed to hear it? Definitely yes! it's a great feeling. I've listened back a number of times now, and while I miiiiight gently walk-back the "it sounds like a record" sentiment... it ABSOLUTELY IS a usable drum sound that, with a tiny bit of eq, could b...

Re: A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things
...really? Super-interested, as I have two of these and have never thought about using them on kick. They've become fast-favorites of mine for vocals and rooms and choirs / strings... but I've never put them near the drums honestly. Will have to try that.

A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things
Today’s experiment was mostly about setting up a knee mic on my buddy’s kit. But also, I recently snagged a UA 4-710 mic pre… so we passed the Miktek CV-4 (in Omni) through a channel of the 4-710 and tracked it with the “slow” compressor setting of that unit’s baked-in comp circuit. After some fiddl...

Re: Silica Gel desiccant packets in the studio?
same here! I bought a huge bag of the 5mg packets on amazon. They're blue until they "expire" and they turn red at that point. Haven't had any hit that point yet. I also bought 1000 4mil poly bags from u-line (1000 was the smallest package I could get) and so each mic is slipped into a poly bag, the...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Well... with my last piece of "old guard" gear sold off... I finally got my last two "input-path" purchases made. I bought a second Metric Halo ULN-8 mkIV i/o box (so that's 8more preamps w/ great AD/DA and some DSP in it... + Since 16 converters felt like an invitation for frustration, I decided to...

Re: I'm much happier now...
Wow, yep — well done Mike! It's always nice to see demonstrable proof that money cannot buy happiness. My music/audio production is not a commercially bookable entity either, so I'm in the same boat. I have a day job where I've heard our CEO tell a prospect something like; "we're not the right platf...

Anyone network drives / iSCSI LUN for audio drives?
Hi there! As I was reading through support materials ahead of receiving my new QNAP home server, I became aware of something interesting. iSCSI LUN is something that this device can serve up. Essentially (and forgive me if I'm oversimplifying it), it should allow me to have a volume that's resident ...

I shipped out my Antelope Orion 32+ Thunderbolt/USB audio I/O yesterday. I'm down to the last few odds & ends that I'm trying to unload (to pay for that which I recently acquired)

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
found a new home for my Dangerous 2bus+ today. Sold on Reverb to someone who ended up being 35min from my house. I dropped it off / saw the home studio / ended up (very very likely) parlaying that into a bit of a consulting gig for the guy. All in all a pretty good day.

Re: Y cable on top+bottom Tom mics
Oh! I just finally found that video where Mike Exeter was talking about his use of the Y-Cables in tom recording. He doesn't (if I'm remembering correctly) mention anything about a resistor-wired y-cable, but he goes into detail about how well it works for him.
