Re: Tell us about your 2023 wrap-up
Less of everything in general, but on the upside a rather significant health issue is finally diagnosed and being treated. I hope for the best for you in regards to this. Thank you! Let's just say that thanks to very modern science it's really not bad at all, versus the "possibly very bad" of only ...

Re: Best of 2023
I'm pretty isolated from new music, it seems. But 2023 is the year that I discovered Louis Cole and all his stuff - Clown Core (that's where it started), Knower, etc. he is a very skilled drummer. Absolutely, but there's a whole ecosystem going there with a lot of interesting stuff. I'm really enjo...

Re: Tell us about your 2023 wrap-up
Less of everything in general, but on the upside a rather significant health issue is finally diagnosed and being treated. Recording specifically, it's not something I did much until Covid, then it was a lot of church virtual stuff. That's mostly gone now too, but at least there are live gigs again....

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
A worn-out and buzzy Wurlitzer spinet piano (not a Wurlie, mind you). Literally disassembled it as a learning exercise as well as to get rid of it. Really should have made a video, or at least recorded some of the soundboard noises. It took about one hour to get the keys, action, trapwork, etc off o...

Re: amps vs. simulators
I can recall a musical where making the bass player use a much smaller amp made the bass sound much better in the house. That's when I saw the light...

Re: amps vs. simulators
Nice cabs!
If I was ever playing bass live again on a regular basis, I think I'd build a little posse of individual 10's I could stack up. As a live sound guy I've found the smaller the bass amp, the better the sound for the audience.

Re: rotating speaker alternative
I did a thing a few years ago with a turntable between the speaker and the mic. On the turntable was a flat wall, so that as the turntable spun it would be blocking or not. Later I made more of a baffle, like a bundle of square wooden tubes. You could put multiple mics around it for stereo and beyo...

Yikes! That looks *very* painful.
I hope your arm doesn't have that bend in it now!

Re: rotating speaker alternative
Obviously the first version did something interesting to make you make V2. So what was the sound like, in general and compared to a Leslie? So thinking about it more, I guess it would have sounded like a frequency-dependent tremolo. Lows would go around the baffle, highs would fade up and down. The...

Re: rotating speaker alternative
Yeah, I kind of wish I'd saved it, but... small apartment. I'd be happier to get my Yamaha CS-05 back, though.

Obviously the first version did something interesting to make you make V2. So what was the sound like, in general and compared to a Leslie? I don't entirely remember, I lived in a small apartment and couldn't keep it around. It definitely wasn't a Leslie, because it didn't have separate rotors for ...
