That makes a lotta sense, I'm sure, for some bands. Gotta say, tho', I would resist using your guitars as my main instrument - whatever mine is at the time, I consider it my sound, and prob'ly feel most comfortable playing. But then, I always insist on my personal guitars being good, too....

One thing about Strats is that most guitar players who don't hate 'em (and I was a hater for a long time) have one or something similar. Was I equipping a studio, I'd look for something likely to be used but mebbe just a little less likely to be possessed, ex ., a Tele, a semi or full hollowbody, s...

the mxl v67 wowed me for the being so cheap.

the adk hamburg and vienna are amazing mics for the money.
i love the cascade fathead! the sm7b still floors me for what it does for the price, especially when driven with a neve(clone in my case) pre.

i recently upgraded from krk rp-8 g1's to adam a7's and find them way less fatiguing and my stereo imaging has vastly improved. i don't think i will have to upgrade until i get a pair of opals or twins. monetarily, will be WAY down the road.

i like my dbx 160x's on vox. they are my second in line after my toft atc-2.
hell, even the dbx 166 does a really good job on vox, but it is a little slow.

forgot to add, the mxl v67 and v67i are my beater mics. they just happen to sound good and i use them for a lot of scratch stuff, demos, and random acoustic recording. they are a good reference mic for a/b'ing gear. if a new mic doesn't stack up against those, it gets moved.

my fatheads, i5's, and sm7b are the workhorses in my studio. everything else has specific purposes.

i have an re-20, but that is typically second place to the sm7b, but first for bass cabs.

as for workhorse LDC's, i have some adk hamburgs that are pulled for general recording.
