Anticipation is a hell of a drug! I'm glad my wacky brain has some company. I am going to treat my space a bit which I'm sure will help, that and experience and watching where and when it happens.. EQ'ing in general and in particular EQ'ing crappy on camera live sound is a new thing to me... watch t...

The placebo effect, when your brain rules your ears

So I'm tweaking the EQ this way and that, doing A/B comparisons carefully and really dial it in so nice then... DOH! I realize that... the audio track for the video I'm "working on" is disabled, and I'm actually listening to another track all along, and quite actively imagining all the good my tweak...

I'm using a focusrite iTrack (two tracks, needs AC Power but can provide phantom power to a microphone ) into an iPad to do some recording for video shoots and it is sounding pretty good. I could as well use an iPhone which is certainly a bit easier to haul around than the laptop for acquiring sound...

Yar thanks so much Larry et al! I enjoyed the quotes in this issue more than I thought I would. I ended up reading the print magazine with an iPad alongside looking up about half of the people quoted.. I live in Seattle so the Kearney Barton quote led me to a treasure trove of Seattle RnB I never kn...

As a related aside, Moby has a video talking about how he ran his instrumental mix through a distortion pedal to better match Mark Lanegan's gravel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX1NPaBkOOM And, the latest issue of tapeop has a review of Radial Engineering's Guitar effects interface. http://www.m...

Sounds good. Because everything else is so clean the room noise at the start is a little bit annoying but that is the only problem I found. Don't have time to place it in context but it held up to the next mix after yours!

Yar sounds good! I gave up on trying to record acoustic drums in band room so am impressed. Guitar amp is brittle and together with the symbals pokes out over the higher eq range. I am very happy with my change to digital drums in my studio / jam room to solve the bleed issue, and it keeps the cable...

Thunder Brings The Rain draft

This rough mix from rehearsal is a milestone for me because swapping e-drums into the basement has enabled me to get good basic isolation in an ( untreated ) room, and track drums, very easily. No vocals in messy drum/room mics, just a few thub thubs and guitar scritchies in the vocal mics to be cut...

I used and liked Tracktion a version ago before it was resurrected but am now using Logic X and like it better than the old version of Tracktion. I don't see how there is anything wrong with Logic's work flow, what I do: I create a new project from a template I made from a previous session by doing ...

Great bang for multiple pre-amp buck with combined firewire interface: 1640 http://www.mackie.com/products/onyx1640i/ around $1400! Then you have budget for mics, room treatment.. a couple of boutique preamps.. You can't bypass the Onyx pre-amps to put your fancy pre-amps into the computer but the o...

painful! the time is all over the place and the singing is tentative and the guitar is with, but not working with, the vocal. musicality: Rehearse both of your instruments to a metronome, then practice recording guitar and vocal separately to a click. Take singing lessons, practice producing vocals....

I didn't think the bass was nuts. I like how there is space for the vocal(s) and how it / they are featured and mixed up high. Real drums should be good as it sounds a bit too crisp and clean / gated / or whatever now. I suggest you try cutting the yeahs etc./ background vocals out of the instrument...
