Re: Egnater Rebel 20 let out the magic smoke !

It's happening to resistors as well - the new line of vishay 1 watt resistors are the same size as 1/4 watt resistors, the 3 watters from the same line aren't much bigger.

Re: Ddistributing Songs

"Aren't curated playlists the modern comp?" For me the difference is, if it's a CD, then the compiler likely has an idear beyond just what they like as the basis for the compilation - and there are usually informative liner notes - all of which I value, as well as the CD format for when I'm on the ...

Re: Egnater Rebel 20 let out the magic smoke !

Excellent! Lead space, radius, and height are every bit as important as electrical specs often enough that I like to pull out the calipers to make sure -try recapping a tektronix or 70s Japanese power amp without those specs. I used kemet caps in my valco national and it's held up well for over a de...

Re: Egnater Rebel 20 let out the magic smoke !

If I'm reading the schematic correctly, it looks like the only load that cap sees when in standby is r116, so there's probably quite the difference in voltage at that node when on vs in standby. That cap's probably had a rough life.
What brand/ type replacement did you order?

Re: Egnater Rebel 20 let out the magic smoke !

Are these the diodes for the B+ rectifier? I'd suspect something downstream pulled too much current and that's the real issue. A dim bulb tester is useful for when you don't want to endlessly replace fuses while hunting down a problem like this

Re: Ddistributing Songs

I think yer correct, and also for samplers ("here's a artist on our label!") and mebbe compilations. Was a time singles were good for impromptu games of frisbee, but that was many years ago and besides , the wench is dead. Just realized samplers and comps were once such an important way of my disco...

CAD E300

I love these mics, but I have three and that's just too many.
Bare mic, no batteries, case, or shockmount. No dents or scratches, some small imperfections in the matte finish and scuffing on the base plate.

Re: Another Tascam 388 wonderer...

I recently saw a Tascam 246 PortaStudio listed locally for $900. I LOL'd. Granted, it was supposedly in 100% working refurbished order. People are really paying that much for limited format (cassette) tape width? They must be, since I see these machines priced as such. I'll take protools 6 and a Di...

Re: Floid TwoTone low wattage guitar amp

It's good looking. What's it sound like? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lY3ILtxS6gqEsA4a5H9ywB9VUFJ7DlcZ/view?usp=drivesdk This track has multiple recordings of the amp. Main acoustic guitar is a nylon classical, butis doubled with an Alvarez parlor guitar with a p90 in the sound hole, through th...

Re: Floid TwoTone low wattage guitar amp

cool, I just learned a little about photoresist dry film etching (had to look it up). I also like how you perfectly aligned those flat head screws on the front.. It's a great option for diy. I've been experimenting with filling the etch with colored epoxy as well, for better contrast. The flathead ...

Re: Cell phone play

One of the more annoying/ exasperating things I've noticed of late is local artists making videos that are just them playing their track on some sort of boom box and "filming" their "music video" on their phone.
Like, I admire the guerilla tactics, but

Re: Recording a blown speaker safely

Wiring up a series/ parallel arrangement with a couple more speakers would protect an amp from both failure modes, at least to an extent.

I've known the joy of a perfectly blown speaker, they can deliver some great tones.
