I have no connection to this item, but there is an 8x4 Amek BC 2 on ebay. It looks like it would work well for that application. I also like the sony mxp2900. It can be found for short money. There are also a bunch of small footprint discrete location mixers floating around.

Does the 828 have mic preamps? If not, you need a microphone preamp.

sony mxp 2000; difficult to find, but great.

The 438a is a quirky beast, but i love it with acoustic gtr, vocals and drum room. It doesn't work on everything, as the compressor grabs oddly on stuff like female vox. I would love to get another.
