Sounds like you need a DAW, any DAW. You'll find it useful for all kinds of things over the years, including recording killer songs.

Slightly off-topic, but something to prepare for in the near future: I have an Oppo blu-ray player with a USB port. I connected a 1TB hard drive to it; the drive has a lot of 24-bit tracks I bought from hdtracks.com. The directory of the drive shows up on my TV screen and I can play the files in alp...

I think one of your problems is (correct me if I'm wrong) you've paid in full. There's no reason (other than decency) for him to do anything for you now.

One third up front, one third halfway through, and one third upon completion seems like a standard way to pay anyone for any job.

I'm a big fan of doing a mix with just the stock plugins the DAW provides. It's a very interesting exercise, and often produces really good results. Then if you find you just need a plugin to get a certain sound, go ahead and use it. Ditto. Even when I have a great new thingy, I find myself going b...

That's the company! They do these DVDs as well - they're just regular DVDs.

Great article in Stereophile this month about this; it mentions that the RMS level of the average CD has increased by 9 db since the format was introduced. 9 db! Can you believe that?

I actually found out that Paypal handles this. If you're good with html (I'm not), they give instructions. If not, lots of companies sell drag-and-drop code for cheap. I'll be trying one soon. I also found a company that does burn-on-demand. You upload the files to them and get a link for your site....

Software for selling downloads from my website?

Any experience with this? We're selling hi rez files and would like to offer them as downloads in addition to selling them as 24-bit DVDs. Heck, I'd like to be able to have people download the DVD and burn it to disc. I need to allow people to pay with paypal and then get an email with a link to the...

I'd try the buffer settings first. That's a quick and easy fix.

Re: Fighting Discouragement

Have you ever heard a recording so bad that you wanted to sell all your gear and hide in your apartment until you die? I should have been motivated by it. I should have heard it and thought of all the ways I could have done it better. But I'm just so discouraged at how easy it is for knuckleheads t...

1) Get a lawyer. It might not be as expensive as you think, and it's always worth it.

2) What do you need this company for? You could do all this stuff yourself - especially if they can't do a mega-promotion for you. That's really the only thing that's out of a musician's range.

That's funny - with me, it's going in the opposite direction. I've moved so far into the box that I've gotten rid of one power distribution strip. I also have a ton of cables lying around that I'll probably never use again (including about 20 MIDI cables).

I use file>bounce>quick time movie. It bounces, and makes a .mov file. Then i uploaded to We Transfer, he could open my link. He said the audio that i recorded isn't there. I uploaded it to my dropbox also, same problem. So it seems like it's something in the bounce. Do you check to see if the audi...

A live room is a lot like a favorite reverb - it works well for some recordings, but it sucks when it doesn't work and it's printed on the tape. You can't adjust it or get rid of it. On the other hand, if you always like the way your room sounds, good for you. It's better (and easier on the wallet) ...
