Re: Considering going back in time with an old MOTU interface
I would definitely forget about any FireWire device unless you have a matching old computer to use it with, which is certainly an option if you don’t mind using old software - easy to find old Mac Pros, etc, at a good price. Sound quality wise, unless you’re overly picky I’m sure it would be just fi...

Re: InMusic takes Moog. Resistance is futile...
Yep, I predicted this alongside the most recent reissue if the Minimoog, the impact of the Moog One, and lesser so with the newer plug-ins. In my perspective, none of those were a sustainable long term path. I understand the Minimoog legacy appeal but to reissue something like this in todays market ...

Re: Could Forums Like This Make a Comeback?
I don’t see the point of FB groups unless you just like to see the same few things repeated over and over again, and can’t find anything. Forums make a lot more sense as knowledge bases. Does anyone go to libraries anymore? I hate FB and FB groups. I do have a library card, but I can just checkout ...

Re: Could Forums Like This Make a Comeback?
Someone did an age group survey on gearspace recently - according to that the average user I think was around 50. I would assume TOMB is similarly skewed, if not older. I assume I am one of the youngest people that is here regularly, at 38. So I would say if there aren’t more young people on forums,...

Re: !
Wow. I just checked out the rest of the MonoPrice website. So much cheap crap that is begging for me to just take a chance on. HA! Like this is just screaming "FUN!" and if it ever dips below $200, I'll check one out. I've got a few different 12" speakers laying around that I could swap out. https:...

Re: non-paying clients?
We have a couple clients like that at my day job …not necessarily dead beats but for one reason or another become delinquent on their accounts…though they generally come around when they want more work done. And when they have made their account current they graduate into a pay in advance type clien...

Re: New Waves Subscription model
some comparison (my observations and not exactly exhaustive market research...) Slate Digital (All Access) - everything for $149 year - I like their plugins but also not likely to do the subscription because I bought most of the plugins that I wanted to use (before they introduced the subscription ...

Re: New Waves Subscription model
my first legit Waves plugins was the Musician's bundles (2 I think) and then I dropped almost $500 for the SSL bundle -- and at the time, that was greatly on sale (this was way before the $29 plugin sale every day). I bought more plugins, paid for WUP a couple times. I'm sure I spent around $1K - m...

Re: New Waves Subscription model
I don’t like putting a lot of money in software in general, I’ve already invested and I’m not upgrading computers regularly so I don’t want subscriptions. I really don’t need any more EQs or compressors or whatever. If I made lots of money with music it’d be one thing, but I really don’t. So at leas...

Re: Amp Closet Soundproofing in 3rd Floor Attic
I don’t know if you’ve tried a solution like this, but I gave up on the idea of a cab in the house…I plug my amps into a Two Notes Torpedo Live and record direct. Best of both worlds, imho.

Re: digital playback device for live shows?
I agree that some kind of MPC or similar would probably be adequate for triggering samples, even if it’s an older model. I don’t have any experience with this, but this is cheap and simple anyway. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MPX8--akai-professional-mpx8-sd-sample-pad-controller I think i...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
As per my other post, I just picked up a pair of the Monoprice active ribbon mics. I resisted as long as I could but at $49 each I finally caved. My first impressions are really good. The come in a nice steel suitcase virtualy identical to the one the my 414s came with. There's a pop filter and a s...

Re: Vinyl tops CD sales - first time since 1987
Though it reads like a positive spin, Still doesn’t seem like a lot. And if you look at total units sold, pulling an example 1995 jagged little pill sold 33 million …2022 Taylor swift midnights sold 1.8 million. I wish there was a way to know how much of the vinyl released today actually gets played...
