Computer power supplies generally spit a fair amount of harmonics back up the power line, so it's a good idea to keep any sensitive audio equipment on a different leg of your home's wiring system if possible.

It could also just be dirty power - http://www.acoustica.org.uk/other/mains_noise.html .

Approaching a dense mix

Dense, as in a LOT of information. Last week I received audio data for a song I'm mixing for a local band. Drums, bass, guitar, violin and vocals, so nothing too heavy duty. Or so I thought, until I opened up the session file and found no fewer than 69 tracks, many with layered different takes. Afte...

If I had the cash I'd buy this merely for the fact that it looks like it has a flux capacitor on the front panel..

The one time I've recorded tabla, I got decent results using a pair of KM84i's in XY a couple of feet away and a couple of feet above the drums, with a 414 on the same level as the drums a little further back. I'm doing some tabla recording again this Friday, the songs the parts are for are already ...

WTB: Clutch Type G Screwdriver

I'm after a tool to help with the unscrewing of the weird, butterly-shaped screwheads (as pictured below) holding on the back panel of my Ampeg Gemini I. If anyone has a spare to sell or knows where I can easily get one, please get in touch!

Cheers,

Garry

I ordered parts to build a new Windows-based DAW last week, and after doing a lot of research, I'd suggest that, if you can afford it, you go for an Intel Q6600 quad-core CPU. It's not much more expensive than the better dual-core processors (I got it for ?160 delivered in the UK, I've seen it adver...

I've had some good results with Voxengo Redunoise, it's cheap-ish.

It all depends on the client and the songs, but lately for my own purposes I've been enjoying:

Jazzmaster -> Ampeg Gemini I -> AKG C414B-ULS in cardioid, at varying distances from the grill, normally fairly central on the cone and angled a little towards the edge.

Many thanks for the detailed replies. I've changed the original download link, I didn't realise how far Sendspace has gone down the shitter. After having a few listen-backs over the last week I've came to similar conclusions, so I'm definitely going to go back over the mix, using what I've got at th...

Three-piece indie-pop-rock band - how does this mix sound?

This is one track from a demo I'm recording for a band of a workmate. I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to mixing, so I'd really appreciate any feedback on how the song translates onto other people's systems, and any general comments on how to improve the mix. http://download.yousendit.com/023A...

Good job, the mixes translate really well on the cheapo computer speakers I'm listening to them on. Nicely glued-together sounds.
