Re: Thread Size Around XLR Barrel on Condenser Mics
Thanks guys. This has been a really helpful start. The screw on clip from my baby bottle fits as does the ring/nut/whatever you call it from my Apex 205 ribbon. Looking at the Shinybox mics on Jon's instagram page the body appears to be similar or maybe the same (?) as the 205 so Jon's 22mm info is ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
As per my other post, I just picked up a pair of the Monoprice active ribbon mics. I resisted as long as I could but at $49 each I finally caved. My first impressions are really good. The come in a nice steel suitcase virtualy identical to the one the my 414s came with. There's a pop filter and a sh...

Thread Size Around XLR Barrel on Condenser Mics
This is a bit of an oddball question but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Does anyone know the thread size for the threaded area outside the xlr barrel on a condenser or off-shore ribbon mic? On a condenser it's the part where you unscrew the base of the body to access the internals. On mic...

Re: February RPM Challenge 2023
My plan has evolved. Now it's an EP of classical guitar and pedal steel duets. The steel is played by my brother. It's the first time we've really made music together since we were teenager 30 odd years ago.

Re: Underwhelmed by ATMOS music (So far)
IAt home people might have a glorified surround sound setup (of likely compromised positioning by the spouse), but at best the average home atmos implementation might be soundbar that does some kind of weird science, or earbuds of some kind. At home people can't be counted on to set up two speakers...

Re: Bass and octaves and low end
I'm kinda with everyone else here. I've had similar problems to solve and never found a plug in solution that really does it for me. I've used lowender a bunch and love it but I've never had much luck using it as a fix. When it works it's because I'm implementing it at the start to craft a whole sou...

Re: Favorite NAS for audio
Same for me here. I've got three 1tb drives in the studio computer plus some usb ones for mobile and off site back up. I like to treat projects the same as I did in my tape days though. The data belongs to the client and they get a copy of everything. They're responsible for archiving not me. I hang...

Re: February RPM Challenge 2023
I just signed up. I'm going to aim for a 5 song EP but maybe go bigger if it really gets rolling. I'm going to try writing/recording some instrumental music centered on classical guitar. I've been playing it a lot lately and realize that I haven't really recorded with it much. My limitations - Every...

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....
I just unloaded a 1950'a Lyra (United) parlor guitar. I've got the point that for anything new to come into the house and studio something has to go. I bought this one to learn some repair work on. I reset the neck and brought it back to life but didn't have much use for it afterwards. It feels nice...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
This isn't so much new as it is revived. I'm breaking out the Yamaha PM430 as the front end for my cassette 6 and 8 track machines. My writing partner and I will be starting work on a soundtrack gig shortly and the cassette multitrackers are a big part of our work flow. I spent some time setting it ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Just picked up a late 60's Harmony H162. Except for some scuffs and dirt t's in great shape. The neck angle is creeping up though and it'll need a reset at some point in the future. They all do. Still, the price was right and it plays and sounds beautiful.
