Re: Computers/Mac

First, whatever works, works. No matter if it's a PC or a Mac or HAL or something you stole from the ship when these aliens took you for a joyride. What is your priority? Staying current and being able to swap projects with other places? Get a new machine, get all the stuff around it ...and keep you...

Re: Prodipe D12 copy???

Their distribution is kinda based in France. A year ago or so ago i tried to find out more...and found not much at all. It's available as part of a drum mic package and on it's own, not very expensive. I would be surprised if it is similar to the D12 because that capsule is elaborate and expensive t...

Re: Since we're talking headphones

I got two dozend headphones in the studio (and broke a few dozends more over the decades) and it's very personal which to get, frequency distribution and fit/the size and shape of your head and whatnot. So skip "opinions" and go try a few, sit for an hour, read a book listening to music and see whic...

Re: K&M stands?

Sandbags or weights from a gym. The other way would be to look out for vintage mic stands from the 60s or 50s that are veeery heavy and can be had for cheap (or in exchange for a shiny new stand) from schools, city halls, ballrooms, you get the idea.

Re: Beyer Mic repair

As far as i know, the capsule of the M88 is available as a spare part ... or at least used to be. I saw it on the german spare parts website and in the UK at polar audio - where it's gone now. It's a moving coil mic, so if the capsule's damaged it might get tricky to actually repair it. The M88 does...

I never had trouble with my rhyming dictionary. Guess my clients value my ability to rhyme even in power outages.

The box full of brokens mics came back from Shure Germany, after they concluded it's the capsules and what it would cost. I wouldn't just put 'anything' in, the cheap 10$ capsules are close to useless, but there exist capsules out there that are said to fit. So I'm going to buy a few different ones ...

No, that's not the exact one, but similar. As it was written before, it's not about getting the mic 100% back in shape, but make it work rather than throwing it away. There's not flat fee repair in Germany for Shure mics, as far as I know.

Substitute microphone cartridges?

Hello, a friend of mine with a PA company has a box full of damaged and dead SM58, 57s, and Beta 58s. In the USA it's easier to get mic cartridges to get them going again, in europe it's nearly the price of a new mic, so doesn't make that much sense. I have seen a few cartridges from china that clai...

After some searching I went with the Cortado and adjusted it to my needs. It does a good job, is super easy to build and I got a few mails of good advice from ZeppelinDesign labs. To make it work with the high peaks from my DDrum trigger (which I don't use for sound replacing but as a snare shell co...

I also have a few channels / combinations that give me quick/good results - if it works on soundcheck, it's faster/ more time for fun and experimenting. Doing my shootouts on off days and trying combinations I don't think will work...and learning a lot when they work despite what it thought. In my h...

Replacing drums makes all things sound samey. Meh. Really liked the last Kurt Vile record for that also.
