Re: song seeks critics

Thanks for listening DJDM. I kept the eq on the drum tracks pretty much dead flat and tried to leave them dry. I keep working against the temptation to run too much stuff through the ol' pugins. I may try to pump up the bass frequencies on the drum room mics a bit and see how it sounds.

Re: song seeks critics

Thanks for the listen logancircle. I know what you mean about the bass sound. It is a cheap ass bass played through a cube 20 practice amp, and is recorded live submixed with the drums. I can record four tracks at a time, so I've dedicated two of the tracks to kick and snare. The other two are a ste...

Re: cubase sl: how do I make single tracks into wave files?

I don't know how your machine is configured to run Cubase, but in my version of Cubase SX I make a new folder for each song I record. Cubase SX makes an Audio folder within this folder, and records all my takes into it. I can be confusing to find individual tracks, but running cleanup after a projec...

Ahh, double nickels on the dime, great record. Jesus and Tequilla, and that cool engine running at the beginning and end. Another good one to have is "What makes a man start fires?" I really respect the consise lyrics of the Minutemen. There's meaning, it's poetic, and it's to the point. My all time...

Re: SST Records recorded with an MX5050 8-track... Discuss

Bill Stevenson definitely rips, but I like ROBO too. That dude had some weird sense of timing, but good. I agree, lots of great independant musical thought came out of SST. Despite all the indy labels out there now I don't really hear music like that too much these days. Speaking of SST has no one m...

Re: Messageboard Comp... best songs

Been listening to the comp, and it is pretty damn cool. I've had it for a while and still haven't got to hear all the songs yet. Awesome variety of music!!! Only a little embarrased for my own entry in a collection of great recordings. Lets do it again!

Re: raise your hand if you love getting shocked

I had this same problem with my old fender twin (the evil twin!) Got the shock of my life at a club called Kimo's in SF. Blue sparks arced from my face to the mike. I had my amp repair guru put a grounded plug on it. Haven't been shocked since.

Re: Singer had this forward thinking idea

The new singer in my band bings her own mike. It's one of those shure beta 58's. I haven't noticed that it sounds any better than a regular 58. I think I'm gonna start carrying my own 57 for my vocal use. I allways think back to using this particular mike at Kimo's in San Francisco that was so encru...

Re: the most rock 'n roll lyric of all time

I allways liked the Butthole Surfers lyrics on Florida. "Cause all the sausages that dance like Ray Bollinger on the hood of a car in a traffic jam know exactly what to do, stepchild!" Probably more blues than rock and roll though.

Re: Kick Drum

A new head, tuned on a decent drum is key (mine is a 60's maple ludwig.) There is a baby blanket inside for a bit of muffle, but it still rings out for that boom. I don't have a front head on my drum. I have had good luck with a pzm on the floor in front of the kit (if you don't mimd some bleed of t...

Re: Best economical mic for acoustic and vocal

Here are some cheap condensers I have tried.
MXL V57M $45.00 good for crisp acoustic or vocal.
MCA SP1 $35.00 decent, not as high endy. Mellower than the mxl.

Can't beat the shure 57 for all around funcionality though.
