Does the music scene suck this bad where you live?
I remember back in the 80s (I'm a bit older than most of you guys), there were about three or four places in Berkeley that booked rock bands -- the keystone Berkeley, the berkeley square, ruthies, blakes -- not to mention wild parties everywhere. Then, most of the clubs closed. And the only ones tha...

Re: DIGI 002 RACK QUESTION ABOUT MONITORING
I don't think latency is an issue with the 002 (it is with the mbox because of limited bandwidth of usb 1.1).

Re: Places to play in Santa Cruz, Sacto, and Portland...
I've been in chico for a while -- it's pretty dead musically. Some great musicians do come through, though; I saw victor wooten at peets coffee in chico (the bass player from Bela Fleck). There are some great musicians around, but most of the clubs book 80s tribute bands, local meatheads, and shit l...

Good work. You should get a record deal no problem if you want one. Really liked the arrangements.

Mick Taylor, Can't you hear me knockin' , off of the Stones' sticky fingers Other than that, rock guitar tones have been getting worse for 30 years, starting with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, culminating in the sansamp produced shit you hear today.

Re: RIAA plans to start suing file sharers
I can't believe some of the crap I'm hearing from "artists" who complain about getting "ripped off." I saw something on CNN last night about a madonna song on kaaza planted by the artist herself with a break in the song where the artist says "what the fuck are you doing." In the same song, she uses ...

I checked out webmonkey. Thanks, it looks like just what I wanted. I also checked out webpages that suck (which was also listed as a must-see site in the book that I mentioned).

Re: A to D converters
O.k, I've been using these apogees for a couple of nights, and yeah, I'm impressed, but I still think I'm going to return them to guitar center (after 29 days, 23 hours, and 59 minutes, of course). First of all, they're three years old (as are most other converters on the market with a few exception...

Resource(s) for musicians designing their own website?
Does anyone know of a free resource for designing/maintaining websites. I've got a couple of books (e.g., "internet promotion" by dawes/sweeney) and they seem o.k., but they keep making reference to their own websites where they try to sell their own services.

Re: Hardware interface?!?
Most of the interfaces on the market, although excellent, are using three year old converters, and are probably on there way out -- including the delta 10/10, the layla 24, digi 001, and others. I'd personally be taking a look at the motu hd 192, MOTu 828 mk iii., and the lynx 2. If I were going pro...

Re: RIAA plans to start suing file sharers
Yeah, and the IRS is trying to bring back debtor's prison, too. As far as I'm concerned the riaa and the chump-change record companies, many of whom became what they are by hanging poor entertainers out of windows for asking for what was due to them, are now upset that some little clown like myself i...

Re: making audio sound old
I never used it, but I think opcode used to make a plug-in (vst I think) called vinyl or something like that that emulated the sound an old record makes; other than that just limit the bandwidth, depending on how old it is; if it's before 1950 just cut everything over 5 or 6 khz; the older you get, ...

Re: A to D converters
P.S., I just now started using these apogees, and so far I'm really impressed. You can listen to the converters on a tascam dat player (or at least my da20, which by the way I just sold) for about 30 seconds without fatigue kicking in -- you just want to stop listening, same with an adat, even the 2...

Re: A to D converters
Just got some apogee rosettas (2 channel) for about thirty days for about a grand . For a little less you can get the lucid's (about 800). Then you can spend alot more for multi channel apogees, universal audio, prisms (etc). For just a 16 bit dat, the apogees and lucids are probably overkill . You ...
