Internship AVAILABLE in North Hollywood.
I have a small traditional studio that is self-run, but has an amazing client list. I don't need an intern much, but help would be useful now and then. REAL schedule flexibility is offered. I am happy to teach a little too, but my studio is traditional - no ProTools! (and busy). I could use some hel...

Re: this may seem stupid (di box question)...
Well, imagine trading in one of your studio monitors for a speaker that only has a 12" woofer; that dull woofy tone - that's what most amps have. This is a significant thing - woofer-only sound is what comes out of most amps. That is the sound (eq) your tone goes through - besides the amp modifying ...

Re: Nilsson Schmilsson, what in the holy fuck???
Interesting, both Nilsson and ATMPass were recorded by Ken Scott (with others). Notice the difference in sound. I have heard the multitracks to some of ATMPass and they are printed with the reverb. The 3 acoustic guitars strumming at the beginning of My Sweet Lord were recorded IN the echo chamber a...

Re: Nilsson Schmilsson, what in the holy fuck???
I'm fairly certain it was Ken Scott who engineered the Nilsson album. This makes sense - he left Abbey Road in early 1969. From Trident he did the early Elton records, Bowie's albums with the Spiders, Nilsson, and some TRex and more. It also explains some of the tie-in's mentioned to sounds from Abb...

Re: Theory's and Rants!!
"Too many records are being made on the wrong side of the glass." Things that are supposed to be a "band" record spend more time with the producer and engineer tweaking and mixing, and less time on getting a great performance.

Re: drone devices/ambient accumulation
Be CAREFRUL with Ebows! The one thing they don't tell you is that the magnetic fields it imparts are SO high, that they will de-magnetize your pickups. IN between the pickups is OK and less dangerous, but over time, it causes you to lose highs from that pickup. And if you use it OVER the pickup, (I ...

Re: telephone EQ
I neglected to clarify - you do not need the voltage - that is only when they are used as buzzers. Just clip the two wires to a jack plug - you have a new mic!

Re: telephone EQ
Go to Radio Shack - they have these little round (sometimes square) PIEZO BUZZERS. These little things give off a ZZZZzzzz when you apply a voltage; they buzz around a given frequency, which is usually listed on the package (3k, 1.8k). Buy each different kind - at least one will work for you, and th...

Have you noticed how there are NO cajun/italian/vegetarian/fancy restaurants called McDonalds - even though that is a very common name. There cannot even be a market with that name; If you are in the food service business, you can reserve the right to use that name. Same with Apple records and music...

That's the classic SMITHs guitar tremolo - listen to "How Soon is Now" and several other tracks. Useful trick.. hard to do live, but not impossible.

Re: Hi-Watt Amps
Having loved Pete Townshend's HIWATT sound above all (is there a better reason to love Hiwatt?), it turns out he was using modified PA Head circuits. I found a 100W PA Head from the early 1970's/ It sound bigger, warmer, less glassy and brittle-bright than the other guitar heads. Try it. Usually peo...

Re: WHITE ALBUM - DISTORTION?
Wow - there is a lot of misinformation here; almost all of it. There is a lot of rumour and mystery around these things. Hopefully, our book will simplify much of this. (www.recordingthebeatles.com). As much as can be done, it will be reasonably acurate information. Please be careful here - as what ...
