Re: How Do I Test A D.I. Box?
if you can send some audio to it (even if it's just audio from a phone or whatever) then you should be able to measure some voltage (put your DMM on AC, although it will likely be under 1VAC) and then just see if you can get that on the 1/4" input, and then again across the XLR (voltage will be even...

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
I'm using an Apollo 16 (silver, fw) and a bunch of outboard preamps (mostly 500 series) and I track bands, singer-songwriters, etc. I like that the UA console app can "monitor" in real time with no perceptible latency, and that I can create 4 unique headphone mixes (functionally only 3 for me, becau...

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
PT is all subscription now right? you can certainly do it that way (but if you stop then so does Pro Tools) but I think they still sell perpetual licenses still too, and they changed the reinstatement cost structure (although if you never had it then that doesn't matter). I have a perpetual license...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I don't have those particular modules but I do have a preamp from AML (or Audio Maintenance Ltd - in the UK) - I've the 5003D, which is not made anymore and it's fantastic sounding. It was prebuilt (and only sold that way). I've been tempted build some of the kits but don't have any more empty slots...

I have the standard BA512 opamp in my Coppers, and the stepped input (but variable output)

Re: The bottom of the snare
wave factory plugins and they have a free Snare Buzz plugin. It’s legit snare buzz that you can tweak and mix in with any track. I can’t decide whether it’s insane or genius. https://www.wavesfactory.com/free-vst-plugins/ I would put this on the same level with a plugin that added more string squea...

Re: Saturation Tools and Tricks
Culture Vulture can be cool for the right thing. Sound Toys Decapitator of course. sometimes I'll use Sound Toys Devil Loc Deluxe, which is a compressor but it can add some nice grit. I just got the Louder Than Liftoff Silver Bullet MK2 plugin so I haven't used it a lot, but I did put it on a couple...

Re: The bottom of the snare
I also always mic it and infrequently use it. I had an Audix D3 on it for awhile, and tried a few other things. Just a 57 on it right now (I mean I have a 441 but why waste it here?). At an angle similar to the top mic, but pointing at the wires, but sometimes also toward the bass drum head a little...

Re: VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
I've used Melodyne to "create" harmonies (from the original vocal lines) and then use that so the singer can "hear" what the harmonies are supposed to be This is a great idea. I've yet to crack open Melodyne to see what/how it does, I believe I got a version with my recent PT license. it definitely...

Re: monitors
I start with my pair of Dynaudio BM6a mkii's that I got 10+ years ago. Then second opinion is the Fluid FX80's. They give me a little bit more extension on the low end. I'm not hearing any hiss out of my pair (but occasionally one of the LEDs doesn't come on). Maybe I'm not cranking them up loud eno...

I've used Melodyne to "create" harmonies (from the original vocal lines) and then use that so the singer can "hear" what the harmonies are supposed to be (can do a similar thing with a guitar or a keyboard). Then we track the harmony part until they hit it (and ditch the fake Melodyne harmonies). Bu...

Re: VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
never bought anything from them before, but Thomann had it for $71 (download, no tax) so I went ahead and got the perpetual license. I know I'll use it.

Re: VocAlign? or is there something that does this better?
Hi, The cheapest and best, not the fastest: The Singer Singing it until it is right. Barring that, how much is the Vocalign permanent license or subscription? Melodyne I don't think will align vocal s the same way. there are singers that can do this 100% (and don't need the help) and there are some...
