i have heard rumor of people paying $500 a reel in los angeles.

A engineer friend of mine said he heard on NPR that the main company who manufacture mylar (which is part of the tape backing) has drastically cut back their manufacturing and raised their prices. I assume this could be a large factor in Quantegy's mg. costs.
