About a year ago over at record-producer.com there was listening test comparing a few mics. I don't remember all the mics but the cheap one was a SM58 and was compared against something like a U87. When people were asked which was the high end mic most people picked the 58. Assuming that the average...

Big fan of the MS2000 - its a tweak machine with a vocoder as well.
I am also a big fan of the Nord because its got a very big sound for a digital synth.

I regularly fly with two production cases. One heavy duty 4 space rack and one larger production case. I have never had a problem but it generally costs me $50 per case. Each case is about 50lbs

Also, I keep the mics in my personal bag. Don't ever trust baggage handlers or TSA thugs.

The other option is to have your room mics onstage pointed toward the back of the room. It seems counter intuitive but the reasoning is that you get a better picture of the room by capturing the slap coming back to the stage.

Try Bushwick Studios. http://www.bushwickstudio.com
Very nice sounding drum room and one of the best gear / mic collections (if not the best) in the city.

Never been to any of those schools but I can assure you that they owe me lots of money for completing their students educations. Maybe that sounds a bit arrogant but I've invested a lot of time in to teaching graduates how to do live sound and doing it in the middle of a show can sometimes be exhaus...

Yeah I also thought Dave Kruzen was the best drummer for that band as well. No offense to Mr Cameron who is awesome in his own right. Since this is all opinion, here is mine: As a fan, I don't like remixing albums. If l loved the album to begin with it does not need to be updated. Its quite possible...

For some acts a roaring stage volume is part of the sound. Ac/Dc, Motorhead, Ace Frehley, and Boris come to mind.

I recently mixed the New Orleans act "Papa Grows Funk". When they wheeled in the bass rig which was an 8T and 24B I was curious. However, it sounded phenomenal. Very articulated, plenty of low end and most importantly it looks cool.

For the metal heads: its Slayer's breakdown in the middle of Angel of Death. the best riff that Tony Iommi did not write.

just because you think a band sucks doesn't mean that fans of the band deserve to listen to shit sounding records. The new Metallica album is being billed as the best thing they have put out in years - which implies that the last few albums have not been as good hence the fans still buy stuf...

Maybe Parsons was not referring to drums but maybe time aligning bass mic and bass DI? I've always found that useful.

Whatever he meant, the technique is useful to some, not useful to others and abused by probably many others.

Live sound mixers are always a lot cheaper
Try a Midas XL-8.

Basically what everyone else said about routing but the top live consoles sound just as good as any of the top recording consoles.
