Still use one exclusively >> in every studio ... like the out of the box feel. A client can bring back a mix -- And we can simply re: EQ -- COMP -LIMIT the mix > from the master on board the ALesis -- viola :: quick & easy Mine was purchased from Joe Chicarelli and came with tons outtakes of a Shin...

What about SMPTE or other way to lock the tape to the computer, do I need to order unit with an extra dedicated channel to read it, or can I get away with using a 1/4" SMPTE in/out on the back? That means that I could get away with investing in a two-track only and that would be fantastic.

I really dug the masterlink, (especially the limiter!), it was my workhorse for years!

It depends on what you need / want and what's your budget. Numbers don't really matter that much and no number on the spec sheet will tell you how good it sounds. This noncommittal answer is so that you wouldn't buy device A over device B because it has 0.001% THD rather than 0.002% or whatever. On...

If you are only going to do online recordings, and no physical media, then you can get away with 48kHz 24 bit recording sample rate maximum. I thought that physical media, (CD), only went to 16bit/44.1kHz? Is 24bit/48kHz the highest that MOST online streaming media sites allow? Is 24bit/88.2kHz com...

What, may I ask, might any of you consider to be the best connection for quality, not necessary speed?

What specs are desirable in an interface?

I want to get the best bang for my buck on something really nice in the future, taking preamps and # of chans out of the equation, what are some some of the biggest factors that contribute to hi-fidelity and accurate, detailed conversion? I'm all hardware and know nothing, but I'm very eager to learn!

"One place to learn about physical differences in tubes is ebay." I actually agree with J-ROB, it's amazing what sort of info someone will be willing to grab and latch onto when there's a profit to be made, I've learned quite a bit about tubes from sellers. Being the original poster, I refuse to to...

Columbus, OH Tape Op'ers Unite!

If you, or someone you know on the board, resides in Columbus or central Ohio, I'd love to meet up and talk shop sometime. I'm 29, I dig tape, hardware and mastering, I'm a total gear addict and I run Analog Sound Studio and Mechanical Mastering here in town, hit me up brothers!

1) In Utero - Nirvana Perhaps the most amazing and emotionally-impactful music I have ever heard. Sometimes I think that the audio on this particular record is not of this world, something entirely seperate from anything we have ever known, almost as if it came from some sort of celestial, intergal...

So, what else are these babies good for? How would you describe their characteristics? Which one, (pm1000 vs pm2000), would be more desirable?

I have an NOS "Zenith" Mullard. I also have Mullards branded "Eico" and "Heath"
I guess that what I'd like to know is HOW do you know they are actually Mullards? Were ALL Eico's and Heath's Mullards? If so, what companies were rebranding Telefunken and Amperex?

Vintage Tube Rebranding

So, while looking for Telefunken, Amperex and Mullard tubes, I keep stumbling upon various rebranded versions, (i.e. Telefunken = Fisher or Dynaco). So, are ALL Fishers/Dynaco tubes Telefunkens? I saw some Mullards that were rebranded GE, but GE obviously made their own tubes, so how would one know ...
