Re: Preamp Hum: Plugged into power but powered off
The unit is on a surge protector and none of the other rackmount units on the same surge protector exhibit the issue. I'm certain that there is a problem with the preamp and was just wondering if that specific symptom would mean something in particular to more experienced tinkerers.

Preamp Hum: Plugged into power but powered off
Hey all, I've got an old ~50s era Presto Recording (so I believe) tape machine amplifier that somebody wired up as a preamp. If I have the output sent directly to a record-enabled track in Pro Tools and I then power the preamp off, the unit begin to generate a very loud hum on the output signal. If ...

Re: Converters and Monitoring for Pro Tools
Right now I am loving my new Focusrite RedNet interfaces. Focusrite is not inexpensive, but it is well worth the price. They use Dante protocol to route audio via ethernet CAT 5 and 6 cables. Which makes for a much better experience, and easily scalable. What does your RedNet setup look like? Are y...

Re: Converters and Monitoring for Pro Tools
Budget: $1000-2000
Probably will not need to upgrade IO in the future if I purchase 8 channels of IO now.
Are most interfaces offering about the same latency specs when working with Pro Tools?

Converters and Monitoring for Pro Tools
I'm returning to the realm of recording after several years on the sidelines and am in need of a new interface, as my legacy 002r with BLA sig mod, PT10 setup is no longer operational. I have a simple, but high-quality outboard chain of preamplification/compression and would therefore rather buy a g...

Yes, agreed. Planned obsolescence, indeed. I was in no way throwing Black Lion Audio under the bus. I was mostly wondering how other proud owners of BLA mods were coping with the loss of it's utility due to the inherent shelf-life of digital devices, in general. I love what BLA does. I only wish the...

Black Lion Audio Mod Owners
Are these Black Lion Audio modded devices all destined for the landfill? Will the technological upgrades held within all be made operationally obsolete via incompatibility with drivers/versions of Pro Tools or Operating Systems rather than mechanical or electronic failure? It seems that in order to ...

Digi 002R with Black Lion Audio Signature Mod
Just checking to see if anybody is interested in buying a 002r with the BLA Signature Mod. I am the original purchaser of this 002r. If so, please PM me.

I believe that they (Par-Metal) are currently accepting orders once again, per the statement on their website:
"[3/7/13] We are taking orders but lead time will be around 3-6 weeks. "
I will find out next week when I attempt to place an order.

My musical catalog has developed continuously, by way of the phenomenon where an artist or band is made known to me at the perfect time in my life. Chet Atkins randomly surfaced within my purview on one day in the not so distant past. I also love how it's a never-ending web, when you discover one ar...

I'm not so confident on the economy. Something's gonna have to give with world record debts and uncontrolled spending. A collapse is inevitable. Question is: can you second guess when that will happen and will you divest to cash in before it does? Can you second guess market values and audio fashio...

iMac Noise in a Split Tracking/Control Room
Are these new iMacs with i5/i7 CPUs quiet enough to have as a DAW host in combination tracking/control room? I was planning to go with a Mac Pro which can be wired at a distance (in a machine room) from the display monitors, but now I'm swinging toward the iMac. My only concern is whether or not fan...

I would move toward another unit as suggested. now if you want to keep the 002r for additional ad and da conversion for more that 8 in/out at a time, I don't know why you couldn't use it on the Adat. it works that way with other devices. I've slaved a 002r off my 003r before via Adat. I mean, if yo...

Another point: Avoid fashion gear, it's way overpriced. Even if you have a hair up yer ass for a 1073, skip that and buy a Chi-com knock-off. The money you save can be put to converting it to a closer UK spec and you will still have extra $$$ left over. If I'd bought a 1073 when I started doing thi...
