Small diaphragm mic on the 12th fret, away from the sound hole.

Still too boomy? Back off another foot.

Really, that should take care of it. (I don't recall you posting exactly where you're currently placing your mic).

Thanks for the info! Now that I've been living with it for awhile, I find that anything near 2GB or above takes too long to download for impatient newbies, so I'm probably going to stick with what I have for now. But I am going to look into it - there may be something in the future that I'll offer t...

Not too shabby.

And actually, the only time I went "whoa..." was after I had mastered a compilation and the client listened to it EXTREMELY LOUD. The "loud" song was ear-splitting! It had been mastered to be loud at my normal listening level, but this guy listens LOUD all the time. I had to remaster it a bit quiete...

Make sure you can hear everything - that's what I shoot for. I don't even think "art". Once you can hear everything clearly, you've got a good mix. Of course, the artist may turn around and say "I wanted to hear the lead guitar louder", so I'll turn that up by 1 or 2 db. But that's about it. This is...

I get 24 bits - I can hear the difference.

But I don't even bother buying the 192 stuff on HDTracks. My Oppo 105 can play them, but 96 is already way more than what I need.

I've only had experience with software compressors/limiters, but I've noticed that some have separate threshold and gain knobs, while others automatically boost the gain as you lower the threshold. If the latter is occurring, you can simply back off the level of the track after the fact. The actual ...

Is the WAV file data (kind of like an old phone modem signal)? If so, iTunes is probably messing with it somehow. It may have even converted it to an MP3. The straight DAW or other audio file player would be worth trying. Also make sure that the Juno input you're using isn't expecting a mic level si...

I guess I'm used to synth action - the keys of real pianos seem really heavy to me now.

Having said that, I've had three inexpensive m-audios (1-88 and 2-49) in my rig for years now, and they've worked out fine.

Take it from a Physics guy - magnetic fields only interact with iron (and a few other metals very weakly, if I remember correctly - or maybe I'm thinking of semiconductors), not carbon-based compounds. Now, if you records were somehow covered with iron dust, then yeah, you'd hear a huge difference. ...

My hi-rez downloads are up and running - and this is free!

Well I learned a bit of HTML (I was dragged kicking and screaming into it) and I enabled our site to sell 24-bit downloads and 256k MP3s. We have a freebie download - 17 tracks from our catalog in 24-bit WAVs (or a physical DVD including stereo surround mixes for $3.99). You can get it here: http://...

As has been said, you've got a lot of choices. I personally use KRKs, and I was able to get a surround setup (2-8" and 3-6") for around $1200, so if you're just doing stereo, you'll definitely have enough left over for treatment. Having switches to boost or cut the highs (or even the mids and lows) ...

I finally purchased two low=cost items from vibralogix - "linklok paypal" and "viewcart" ($45 purchase if you buy them together). Both are just codes, but I really don't know HTML - I just drag things around invDreamweaver to make my website. It's been a good experience - in switching over to "code"...

I mix as I go. Using a DAW is different than recording in a tape-based studio, mainly because the "mixing board" for a song is always in the exact same state as when you last left it. In the old days, mixing meant committing to a master taper immediately (before you changed everything for the next s...
