The Peel sessions stuff is great. But that changes the dynamic....live playing in the studio is a bit easier to pull off than live before and audience IMO. I think many of the pre-daw stuff had alot of live recording done with baffles and seperation rooms. There was always alot more bleed and more o...

the vocals on the intro to 'is chicago, is not chicago' on the first soul coughing record. i assume everyone knows this already, but just in case, backwards verb made easy, DAW-style: reverse dry track. apply reverb. make it 100% wet. save reverb as a new file. reverse reverb track. line up with or...

I have an ART Tube Mp Project series mic pre/di that I've used on several bass tracks and been pretty happy. If you're using a dAW then some post compression and eq will help shape your sound. There are also the regular Tube MP's that go for cheap....they actually sound pretty good and work perfect ...

Guitar Center's online customer service rep said they would match frontendaudio, but the 2 nearest locations don't keep it in stock. So I'll just order it from frontendaudio.com directly next week when my PayPal transfer comes through. I don't like GC either, but I was hoping I could pick it up in ...

Right now I'm trying to find out if I can pick up the 610 from my local GC for the lowest price I found online. Not holding my breath on that, but I have to wait for PayPal to transfer some funds to my bank before I'd be able to purchase it online anyway. They did it for me by matching the price fr...

Yeah for sure. I've been considering picking up one too. I think you really are being smart by spening less than bugdet. That will allow you to get some good cables and/or save the rest. Really great pre's for the money. Solid construction and great manufacturer warranties on both. $520 is a great p...

Yeah I agree with Chris....using FX send for revebs and delays is a great way to add effects to several tracks and reduce the load on your cpu. If you don't do this on most systems your track count won't get too high before it starts crashing or giving you errors. I think you relative wet/dry is the...

Thanks for the advice michael....that C77 looks more promising everytime. to the OP....listened to the track you recorded and I have to say i'm very impressed with the sound of the acoustic guitar. What placement Now I'm not so much with the vocals...the performance was ok but the tone was a bit fla...

I just picked up the Universal Audio 710 Twin Finity and I'm really impressed. It is amazing on vocals with my M-Audio sputnik and works great as a di for bass. It has a tube and solid state side and you can blend them. It goes from super lean to warm and fuzzy and everywhere in between. Plus the in...

Thanks for the tip, Michael. I just read through a bunch of posts on the TOR. Seems like a lot of folks were modding those mics right out of the box. Are there similar mods I should consider with the Victor, or has Cascade done some of this already. I know that there is some dampening in the body c...

Check out SAE Mastering here in Phoenix. They do vinyl in house from 2-track and I'm pretty sure there isn't any digital in the signal flow. Here's a link: http://www.saemastering.com/VinylMasteringFormats.php They've done alot of great records....tons of Thrill Jockey stuff like Tortoise and Sea an...
