Wait, You've not even used your vla yet, and you're already asking for another cheap compressor? Maybe you should spend some time with what you have first? Especially if you think $200 is over priced for a standard that you find in just about every professional studio. Character? What character you...

If it is vocals, I dig the LA-4s which are in your price range. Wow, I had no idea LA-4s were that cheap. Is the fact that they're what, a good $1500 cheaper than an LA-2A? indicative of a similar difference in sound and/or quality? I've long been in love with the LA-2A, and hopefully someday I'll ...

More than complementing your pres, what are you looking to record? For the same price you can get multiple 501s, DBX 160x/xts, both of which I love on drums and bass. For smashing things there are lots of cheap options - i have the fostex mini mixer thingy, the alesis smash up. both <$50. If it is v...

The Hamptone is definitely a colored beast. I like but don't love the distortion effect that it gives, especially on vocals. I'd describe it as 'wooly' if I had to. While it does a good job of reproducing a clean sound, it's tough to tell when it's starting to dirty up the signal and so it wouldn't...

I have no idea what you mean about sports, but it is I think Huey Lewis' strongest album. No issues with stacking either. I tend to use the jfet on male vocals more often, particularly if we are trying for a thicker sound. It is also more versatile to me given the sounds at different input levels. H...

I have the Jfet and a board filled with Neotek pres which are similar, at least in heritage, to the sytek. The are both great, but different. The Jfet is huge sounding and does distort. It has the ability to distort sooner rather than later. The Neotek, def stays cleaner and doesn't sound awesome wh...

I have taken a hybrid approach. I have 3 large booms, 2 are the on stage with cast iron bottoms and the other being a quicklok with tripod. I find them all to be very versatile. The quicklock has bettter hardware for the boom. They are very tall and the different bases allow to fit into different sp...
