I've had a pair of sony MDR 7502s forever & still use them occasionally. They don't have the biggest warmest sound, but for your client they'd definitely be a jump into the realm of actual headphones. $50 though.

+1 to all the above. And even if you're not a drummer just feel confident experimenting with tuning until you find the sound you're looking for. You'll be surprised by how much you know about drum sounds. ...and don't forget about the bottom heads. 3 options being tuned the same as top, slightly low...
