I've had a pair of sony MDR 7502s forever & still use them occasionally. They don't have the biggest warmest sound, but for your client they'd definitely be a jump into the realm of actual headphones. $50 though.

+1 to all the above. And even if you're not a drummer just feel confident experimenting with tuning until you find the sound you're looking for.
