you can try with two 57's.one on axis pointing straight at the centre of the cone and the other right underneath it off axis at about 45 degrees pointing at the edge of the cone.try flipping the polarity of one of the mics.blend the two together for a tone that has plenty of weight in the lower mids...

i once spent hours transfering a 2' multitrack,track by track to a dat only to find out later that what they wanted was the transfer to adat.i thought it was a strangely worded request,but when i checked with the studio manager she was adamant that it was "multitrack to a dat"........the joys of mis...

yep,i get salary here.i'm the only full time staff engineer here.my salary covers 40 hours a week,anything over that and i get in time off.
if both rooms are booked we hire a temp from our pool of ringers...

that's funny Matter,'cos i was gonna say the same thing only the other way around, 57 on front 421 on the back.this works really well on AC30's.they seem to throw as much sound out the back as they do the front.....
