Unique Variety Of Rock - Give Me The Real Scoop
Here's some of our songs we've written and recorded. Most of these tunes are pre-production because we don't have a drummer. So the most drums are MIDI and or played (hacked up) by us - the guitar, bass, singer. Once we get our drummer, we'll go back and record the keeper-tracks. But the songs are p...

I like th BD better on the'spot mic' take, but I like the openness of the 'glyn Johns' version better for the rest of the drum set. The tune is cool and I like the vocal and guitar production quite a bit. Oh and a side note, it's time for some nicer cymbals. The pre-packs just don't cut it, especia...

Sound Clips Of Glyn Johns Mic Placement - Ready
Thanks for the people who responded to my post from yesterday on the Glyn Johns mic placement method. Below is links to my examples. Here are the specs on these clips: Room: My studio is in my basement (13' x 11') with Carpet attached to the walls with a Hilti-gun. There is carpet on the ground as w...

Here's what I do: 1. Have the drummer start hitting the drum 2. Feel (with your hand) the shock wave - the actual air blast coming from the drum. 3. At the edge of the shock - where it starts to fade, move IN a couple inches - and that's where I place the mic (D12). And it's roughly center height of...

Glyn Johns Mic Placement - Side MIC - Interference With Ride
One issue with the Glyn Johns mic placement method: For the side-mic over the floor tom, (in keeping the same distance from the snare as my overhead), mine is about 4 inches away from the tom - which is good and keeps it out of the way - BUT, it seems to be right under my ride cymbal. This being pos...

I think you should go D.I. This way, you can always reamp to another track if it becomes available. Plus D.I. offers a lot of detail which might sound great in a punk situation - allowing the bass to cut through and be heard. And the Sans-Amp is a fantastic choice. Post some clips when you're done! ...

You might also try turning down the amp. Sometimes a little less volume and a little less distortion can help enlarge the tone. This is one of the MOST HELPFUL tips offered in this post. Perfectly worded as well. Turning the amp down (just a bit) and backing off the distortion will make a WORLD Of ...

Nobody? Well I don't have a mackie 8-bus or a Pro-Tools HD system but have used both and think if you really want to start mixing out of the box, you would be better served by saving a few extra $s and getting a better board. Naturally your money will go further with a used board then new and there...

Mackie 8-Bus and Pro Tools
Does anybody use a Mackie 8 Bus console AND Pro Tools? I have Pro Tools HD2 and a little Alesis mixer. I found a great deal on eBay and picked up a Mackie 8 bus 32 channel mixer. (something I've ALWAYS wanted). Allthough Pro Tools has it's own mixer, I was wondering if anyone uses this combo - and t...
