i'm not sure about the grounding. I'm not too savvy with that kind of stuff, and i've never had any grounding issues so far (i don't think, at least), so i've just totally ignored that issue until now. i have some research to do.

TT Bantam Patchbay wiring question

So I am about to embark on a mission to add a couple TT Bantam solder-type patchbays to my studio. My question about the wiring is: the connections are going to be a mish-mash of balanced and unbalanced. When I am wiring unbalanced connections to the back of the bays, should i leave the (-) wire tot...

i really like Rocket from the Tombs - "The Day the Earth Met the...". really insane raw sound (a far cry from Frampton Comes Alive or whatever) that actually makes the record cooler, instead of being annoying. i like hearing these crazier early versions of songs that later became more mellow when re...

i've ordered several reels of RMGI tape from Full Compass before (http://www.fullcompass.com/search.php?txtAll=rmgi&txtBrand=RMG&sortOrder=highPrices). they have reasonable prices. i've also been planning on ordering a couple reels from ATR Magnetics (http://www.atrtape.com/). I haven't used their t...

cool, thanks for all the tips. one other question along those lines - are plain old razor blades i would buy at the hardware store fit for tape splicing? do those qualify as "non-magnetic", or are splicing razors a more specialized product?

actually now that i think about it, the board does kind of have mute groups (just turning the busses off in the monitor section that feeds to 2 track master output). so maybe this is more managable than i think. i'm not sure what you guys mean when you say "mix in sections and plice things together"...

i'm working with a Tascam MS-16 tape machine and a Tascam M520 board. no mute groups on the board, the tape machine has a decent auto locator remote, but i'm not sure how well it works for setting up precision punch ins/outs. the manual didn't seem to have any information about doing this sort of th...

Editing and clean up on analog tape

So, i've been wanting to do more projects tracked to tape, mixed OTB, and just send the 2-track mix down to the computer as the finished product. But something has been bothering me - when working just with multi-track tape, what is the best way to edit out stuff like stick clicks, amp noise, etc at...

Vintech 1272 balanced output issue

So, i just got my Vintech 1272 in the mail recently (thanks Robert), and my issue with it is, (unless i'm really missing something here), the output, which is balanced XLR, needs to be connected to a balanced input to work properly. right? This hasn't been the case with any other balanced gear i've ...
