space saver stuff
I'm sure there's room for some extra 500 modules in those cargo shorts, too! :P

Cable stables is a genius move.
One which I'll be borrowing.
Thanks. I got Timbo to put those 500 series jobs back in the rack. Good eye!

Re: Some space saver stuff for the studio

Very cool space! Glad you're back "home". One little niggle about putting excess cable together in a tub - great idea, but don't put any line-lump power supplies in there, those things radiate lots of noise. Thanks. Our whole joint runs on balanced power and we took extra care routing all AC this t...

Re: Some space saver stuff for the studio

Years ago we were loaned a pair of QUESTED HQ210 mains that came with some rough 2x4 stands. They are kind of fun speakers but honestly we don't use them that much. More like an end of session party thing or the occasional 'check the bottom' thing. When moved out of our space for the construction w...

Re: Some space saver stuff for the studio

Thanks guys. Cable Stable is really easy with a Dremmel, a hack saw or a jigsaw. We've been doing that for a while.

Some space saver stuff for the studio

We had to move out of our spot over 2 years ago while they were doing foundation work on our building. We temporarily merged with a friend (Hugh Pool at Excello Recording) and didn't loose any work but it was a long time, longer than expected, to be out of our space. We had a lot of time to think ab...

Re: In-ear Monitors (IEMs)

I think a lot of professionals just use their live IEMs in the studio also, like why wouldn't you use very high quality custom-fitted devices? I have a pair of the base model Sensaphonics IEMs, custom molded of course. I got them because I'm a live sound guy and once in a while get an IEM monitor m...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I use one of those SE Reflexion Filter things with mics at home. It helps me get a 'close' sound. It mounts to the mic stand and has its own place to mount a mic. It sounds very good but it's a total pain to adjust from Vocal height to Acoustic Guitar height (those are the 2 things I use mics for at...

Re: Recomend Me a Good Trem Pedal

I absolutely love the Mad Professor Mellow Yellow Tremolo. It sounds great and has a gain knob so your volume doesn't have to drop the way it does on a lot of tremolo pedals. The PCB version sounds just as great as the hand wired. https://reverb.com/marketplace?product_type=effects-and-pedals&query=...

Re: Insuring your studio and live gear

We had a policy with Music Pro for quite a while. They were very good to deal with. A client got a guitar stolen out of a common area and they ponied up the dough for that promptly. They also didn't flinch with the values of the stuff at the studio and it also covered my gear on tour. I don't know h...

too bad no M-500. That's an astounding mic for basic tracks or guitar/vocal rejection.

Re: Acoustic Guitar in Untreated Room

Recording Acoustics in an untreated room: If you want to get a tighter sound some absorption behind the microphone will help. No absorption? You can accomplish this if you have 2 extra mic stands w booms by setting each one up as a T (boom horizontal to the ground) and draping some blankets over the...

Re: The dreaded Pro Tools upgrade

Trading "up" to an 11 year old computer sounds crazy to me. When I started we had to have a console and large format tape machines to work. When I read a post like this I just don't get it. I feel like my advice would be unwelcome but here goes. My advice would be to get the best (supported) compute...

I don’t know if you’ve tried a solution like this, but I gave up on the idea of a cab in the house…I plug my amps into a Two Notes Torpedo Live and record direct. Best of both worlds, imho.
I use the UA OX (similar product) and I'm super happy with the results.
