This is a tricky situation... Are these clients going to actually use you? Are they ones you have worked with in the past? When I managed a studio, back in the day, I used to get cold calls like this all the time : "Do you have Pro Tools" was the very first thing I heard... I would answer "Yes, do y...

Was third day back at my "day job" getting the place back together. Man I can't stand getting sick. They even hired two people to keep things going , and they managed to get behind a week and a half (I was gone two weeks) By Thursday I was all caught up, and then they informed me no new show recordi...

The other option we thought of is to make a short run of just the guidebook with the CD affixed to the back page in a cardstock sleeve. I envision something like this: http://buenaventurapress.com/books/bookBPB-19.php only way less expensive and smaller in scale, 30 pages at the most, lighter in we...

BGs : 4 part harmony, quadrupled. in other words 16 voices. NO, not 4 voices ran through a damn harmonizer, but 16 independently recorded parts. Low Low mid Middle High Depending on the song, style, etc, you may or may not modulate them as the song progresses. Also depending on the decade you are go...

Speaking in stereo terms, are there any suggestions as to how I should handle the panning of two pianos? One will be the lead instrument and the other will be an accompaniment. The thoughts there were either to put the second piano hard panned L/R and the first piano more centered, or to follow the...

Diana Krall : The Look of Love. Al Schmitt used a bunch of his Neumann U47s on this one. So it's a great example of what can be done with a lot of really nice microphones. I can see how it would be easier if you use the same signal path all the way to the DAW / Tape. You can make EQ decisions based ...

Re: Suzanne Vega Fans?

Anyone on here really love Suzanne Vega? I certainly do. Consistently amazing albums from an artist with a clear vision and voice. Her latest one, Beauty And Crime (2007), is really fantastic, even though it didn't get much press. I totally put her Mitchell Froom records on a pedestal and Nine Obje...

Thanks a lot for that! Would it perhaps be easier to add direct outputs from each channel? Then I could assign two tracks for stereo and pre-mix them in Logic. I am quite liking mono so far (suits a current project perfectly), but it would be nice to use the mic preamps for recording. It would. Jus...

Holy shit, that is hot. What are you liking it on (everything?)?
Thanks.

I plan on using it as a drum room mic today.

Later, some whacked out bg vocals, effected by EHX pedals. Wheeeeee.....!

Re: mackie preamp -> protools question

hi, I'm using the first 4 channels of my mackie mixer as preamps into protools. The only level setting device prior to the insert seems to be the trim. Am I correct in thinking there is no other way to set the output level? It's unlikely the proper trim level for the preamp will be the proper signa...

Hi,

Try a phantom powered condenser, and keep it about 1 - 2 feet away, to minimise the noise. Find the sweet spot for the mic, and you're good to go.

Don't try ribbons nor dynamics, they need too much gain from the preamp.
