I have an old Turner 510 dynamic that has a 4-pin XLR out. it's the smiley face 4-pin out type. Yeah, I did ground the amp which solved the shock problem (this was years ago).

But I think dirtmachine has a different problem.

I'm assuming dirtmachine that you are only getting shocked with the laptop plugged in.

I have the same PowerBook. I don't record with it anymore, but when I did I would get shocked if I was recording my guitar through an old ungrounded amp. I have a 20" iMac G5 that I use for recording. Very quiet. I use to record with a Powerbook G4 that was very loud when the fan kicked on. iMac much quieter. I actually never even notice the iMac fans - but I also record loud stuff.

Well, I CAN hear it through my AKG K240 headphones, but I had to turn them up a bit.

To my wife's displeasure, I cranked my monitors and could hear it as well.

Not sure what it means that I have to play it very loud to hear it.

I don't feel as old as I felt 15 minutes ago.

Crap. Cannot hear it at all. I'm 34.

My six year old can hear it and my wife (30) can hear it.

Too many ear aches as a youngin' and too many band practices/shows without earplugs.
