Your Space / Neighbor Relations / Where you at?

As a recording-type with gear and two bands, it's been nice to have multiple people chip in for spaces in Philadelphia. We've been in all sorts of different warehouses that worked on a temporary basis, and we're now at a nice spot. When we first looked at the place, the landlord was all "yeah, play ...

Managing how plugins are displayed

Is there a way to manage the listing of plugins in Logic 5? All my plugins get installed to the default VST directory, but my insert menus are a bit crazy and I'd like to control how they're displayed, even the names of them.

Is this possible? How do ya'll keep your plugins tidy?

Thanks!

playing engineer and drummer often leads me to record-adjust-listen-record-adjust-listen labor already, so I don't mind the environment. at the rate I pop on the computer and then back to cables, snakes and microphone placement, I'm glad I don't have a door!

man am I glad I asked! the diversity of experience and knowledge on this board always impresses me, this thread is no exception. We mixed down to tape a bit hotter -- it sounded better... but definitely not a finished product. glad to hear mastering can be affordable from some folks on this thread. ...

WTB: USB or Firewire Interface at least 4x4

Anyone have a Presonus, M-Audio or similar quality USB or Firewire interface they'd like to get rid of? I'm trying to get a interface for my laptop, not looking to do anything crazy other than home recordings.

No digidesign, please! Thanks!

thanks for all the suggestions so far! I guess what I'm seeking is a gel. An overall ambiance that some of my favorite CDs sound like. It needs a bit more character, if you will. I know there's no quick fix, just wondering what folks do when they approach this, from wherever they are on the gear/exp...

Re: fatter tape saturation / help me warm a mix

I mean what did the Beatles do? I remember reading in a past tape op, McCartney was a huge fan of mixing down from his PowerBook to an old Wurlitzer... huh what? heh.. hard to emit and detect sarcasm on the internet! who are these tape opers who do good mastering with nice analog boxes? and how muc...

This is a really open ended question. There are a million variables. You say you went to tape. At what level, on what machine, at what calibration, what tape formula? Pushing the level might add some pleasing distortion (that what saturation is), though depending on many factors it might not. Total...

fatter tape saturation / help me warm a mix

my band has just finished recording 5 songs, and I think they're sounding great. I've tried to pay a lot more attention to eq separation on this one. problem is, it sounds too hi fi, too much quality.. too much digital! I try to deal with this with mic selection and placement, and I do like the tone...
