I understand where you're coming from but I don't really have all that much of a "fuck the man" feel about most audio companies. To me it's like, "screw Stanley and Craftsman, I'm gonna buy an offbrand hammer!" Doesn't matter to me; a tool is a tool and bla bla, you've heard all the pro-PT arguments...

I just mixed a short film in PT9 (non-HD). All of the sound-to-pix work I do is either on that system or my PT10 HD rig. Both work fine.

I also have an electric in the studio strung for Nashville tuning - it's an old Electra Workingman that sounds great set up that way. I use it less than I might, but when I do it's very cool.

Hell, I work downtown in the 2nd or 3rd biggest city and there's no music stores.
There's still a Rolling Stone Records at Harlem and Irving.

And Jazz Record Mart downtown.

Good stuff! I'd also suggest that engineers and studios have a clear understanding with clients as to who is responsible for keeping and maintaining backups. I try to keep everything, but any media can fail in some way - and for the rates some clients are able to pay I don't want the responsibility ...

Some guys may be working at 23.98. Check with your editor before proceeding.

From what I've read (in a few places, but notably Tony Levin's book) was that Yoko was insistent that none of John's old drink/drug buddies work on the record.

Not to nitpick, but in my recollection the sound that makes people do the poopy is "the Brown Note." The "Brown Sound" was how Eddie Van Halen described his guitar tone.
