New single from Baggs Patrick- "Anesthesia, Amnesia & Me"
This is a song about bad decisions. It features Baggs Patrick, a Denver singer/songwriter, who wrote it, sang it and played guitar on it. I played the bass and tracked, mixed and mastered it here at my studio. We got it in three takes! i'd like to hear what you think of it. https://soundcloud.com/de...

Re: DI bass and guitar
I've been using an ART TPS for my bass tracks as a DI. It's totally useless as a mic pre, but not terrible as a bass DI. But just last night, I thought I'd try a little something different on a bass track. I set up my Ampeg B2R head, ran out the XLR into my interface and got what I think is a better...

Inexpensive options & recommendations for talkback
I need some kind of a low priced talkback system. Aside from that Samson C Control thing which does have it, but also rolls off the high end from your monitors, what else is there that doesn't kill your sound or your wallet? Or, conversely, if all I need is talkback, could I use the Samson for just ...

Re: Cubase Pro 10.5 opinions
I see that you can update for $450 right now. I am also super fast with Cubase and see no real need or reason to switch to another DAW. GO FOR IT! Unfortunately, I won't be able to upgrade. I'll have to pay full price. They don't let you upgrade when you've had the software for almost 17 years! Not...

Cubase Pro 10.5 opinions
I've been tracking audio with (don't laugh) Cubase SX2 for almost 17 years on several different PCs. I've tried other DAWs, but I can't work nearly as fast on them as I can on Cubase. I'm thinking of upgrading to Cubase Pro 10.5 if I can afford it. Have any of you used it for tracking audio? If so, ...

Re: Mackie 1604VLZ rehab as shelter in place project
Definitely not the dialetric grease. Any kind of tuner/pot cleaner lube would be fine. The old Radio Shack stuff was OK. Sometimes knowing what NOT to use is as important as knowing what to use. In other, serendipitous news, I just found a long-forgotten can of Caig ProGold G5 cleaner in the baseme...

Re: Mackie 1604VLZ rehab as shelter in place project
Has anybody had any experience with CRC contact cleaner? I know Deoxit rules the roost when it comes to contact cleaning, but I may not be able to buy any locally, and shipping times for non-essential products are way higher than usual. The Home Depot near my house has some CRC contact cleaner on ha...

Mackie 1604VLZ rehab as shelter in place project
So today at 5PM, my city issued a shelter in place order due to Covid-19. That means I can go to work (my work is considered essential), but after work, I'm supposed to head home and stay here. It's for the greater good, I know, but... ugh. So I've decided to use my shelter in place time to tackle o...

Re: Unusual fix for microphone noise issue
oh thats amazing! I'll have to get my K3U/MH40 out of storage today and check that out. It used to be my favorite SDC for drums. But then one session it started sputtering and making noises. Changed cables, tried a different phantom power supply. Same noise. I never would have thought to try puttin...

Re: small mixers for tracking headphones?
I use the Oz Audio Q-Mix HM-6 in my studio. It allows me to feed a master stereo send plus four aux sends, which could be guitar, bass, drums, vocals, keys, click track- whatever you decide to send to each of the four mono ins. The band can dial in their own mixes, with as much or as little of each ...

Re: Unusual fix for microphone noise issue
Very clever. Wood is smarter than an old battery that could eventually leak and severly screw things up inside the mic. My thoughts exactly. Now that I've got both these mics up and running, I am amazed at how good they sound for drum overheads. I could probably get away with only miking the kick d...

Unusual fix for microphone noise issue
I recently bought a pair of Sennheiser K3-U microphone bodies with a pair of M40 cardiod capsules. I started noticing that one of them was so noisy that it was unusable. I had seen something online about eliminating noise when using these without batteries (the batteries are no longer available, but...

Re: Speaker switcher recommendations
Shortly after posting this, I saw an ad on Facebook Marketplace for an Adcom GFS-3 speaker selector. I now have my Tannoy Reveals and Realistic Minimus 7s hooked up to it, with room for one more pair of speakers. It doesn't seem to color the sound as far as I can tell. It's not rack mountable, but I...

Speaker switcher recommendations
I want to add a second set of monitors to my control room, but when I search for speaker switchers, all I see are these janky looking boxes made of plastic. I don't have a ton of money to spend on one, but what's a good, reasonably priced speaker switcher (preferably rack mounted) that won't fall ap...

Re: Tracks imported from Mackie DL32R are hissing. They weren't before.
I figured it out. It's not the Mackie's fault. It's Audition! Whenever I render the individual wav files as a batch process, it adds noise to random tracks. I have no idea why, but that's where it's happening. I have to render my individual wav files one by one, but it works- without noise! Has anyo...
