Re: What mics for female rock vocalist (alto)? Plus a couple vocal recording questions
Btw, one thing I noticed over the years is if the singer is a screamin' rocker, then a 57 or 58 is great because you put it right to your lips and not worry about maintaining a certain mic distance or having to use a pop screen, etc.

Re: What mics for female rock vocalist (alto)? Plus a couple vocal recording questions
She'll sound mostly the same regardless of mic, and other gear in the chain will effect things. That said, any of the classics you mentioned will work, although I didn't see a U67. Anyway, for a modern mic, check out this Blue Microphone Kiwi

Re: Vocal panning approaches
I record everything mono and take a mono send to a mono reverb. Then at mixdown, pan the mono reverb return to the right in order to create a bit of stereo-ness.

Re: Percussion session today - HELP
OK, so I've recorded the stray shaker here and there but have never done a full day of percussion tracking (tamborine, claves, shaker) on an entire record. So I'm appealing to the collective mind here for advice. I have a small but versatile array of mics -- LDCs, SDCs, dynamics, even a Cascade rib...

Always use mine in normal position as cooling and gravity might be factors. That said, Echoplex are monsters! .. heres mine in action.

Re: "harsh frequencies"
I've been afraid to ask this one, but here goes. How does one find "harsh frequencies"? If I create a big spike in Pro-Q3 and comb it up and down, every single freaking frequency sounds bad. Yet I know there are some I should deliberately notch out to come up with a much better mix. I've spent so m...

Re: New Barn Studio build out
Yep I understand keeping it comfortable, but looks-wise ..would be neat if it could stay looking like a barn. :) That's my ultimate plan. I want it to look and feel like a barn on the inside and plan to put up more wood over the inner sheetrock walls for aesthetic purposes/vibe, at least. This is g...
