Re: motivation

Does anyone find that they lack of lack of motivation? I hear ya, buddy. The best thing to do is commit to one accomplishment per day. Eventually the list will thin out. If you don't do it, the list will get bigger. Then you'll just shut down and be depressed. Set deadlines for yourself and make su...

Re: whats is your favorite album? ever!

Opeth - Deliverance Each song is amazing. They actually came out with Deliverance and Damnation in the same recording session. Mikael's style is half heavy and half mellow, so they decided to take the mellow songs and put them on Damnation and put the heavy ones on Deliverance. He had tons of ideas ...

Re: my ears have been killing me

You should have your ears professionally checked. There are certain places to do this, but I'm not sure where. You can have them checked to point of knowing exactly which frequencies you can and cannot hear and they can mold a set of high quality ear plugs specifically for your ears. My recording te...

Headphones Question.

I have headphones that cover my entire ear. They're not the best, but I think they're good. Anyways, I often wear them for hours at a time while listening to music or recording or whatever. And afterwards my ears feel irritated. Is this anything serious, or just a nuisance?

Re: Please critique my rough mix.

I agree. I'd go with like a 60-70% panned instead of 100%. Just so there's a little of it in the other speaker. I listened to it with headphones, so it was weird to hear it all in only my left ear. But the songwriting aspect is great. I really love the flow of the song. The vocals are beautiful also...

Re: Almost done EP! Hear it now and give me feedback.

Wow. This sounds amazing. I don't know the ins and outs of the tech side, but as a listener or music, I really enjoy the songs. And I mainly listen to metal. It sure caught my ear.

P.S. That streaming thing is awesome. I hate waiting for things to load.

Re: Nothing but an SM57

No effects at all. Just a 57 and mic preamps. And only 1 SM57 at that. http://justinpenney.com/sm57/Your%20Way%20Out.mp3 Sounds great. But the distorted vocal part could be better. It sounds like it was done digitally. Was it? I suggest just singing through a megaphone. I think you can pick one up ...

Want some feedback on my songs.

http://www.angelfire.com/moon/aasteveo/songs/songs.html I just recorded these two songs this month. The first is Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani and was just my lead guitar played over a backing track. I went direct with a Toneworks AX100G into a 2-input micro-mixer. Ghetto, I know, but I'm broke. I wo...

Re: Recording Schools Worth It?

I just got my Bachelor's from Berklee in Music Production and Engineering. I would not trade the past 4 years of my life for anything. I plan on going to Berklee next year and just submitted my BEST scholarship application. I'm afraid I'll be in debt for the rest of my life with student loans. And ...

Re: I wish someone had told me... (newbie thread)

In most cases, another take is better than editing. ..if it doesnt sound good before you record, it will NEVER sound good recorded :D Both very true. I'm a newbie myself, but I read an article in Feb 2005 recording magazine (entitled "Sonic Dishonesty") that explained how the technology of the edit...

Re: Speaker Question

Depends on what "low" means... Well, I'll put it this way: I'm a broke college kid with a crappy job. So we're looking at only a few hundred. I just need something to get the job done that won't hinder my ability to perceive the natural sound of the recording. Also, some studio headphone advice wou...

Speaker Question

I'm fairly new to the recording scene and I am trying to build up a home studio. My computer speakers suck and I am considering getting some high quality speakers. Any suggestions? Keep in mind my price range is low.
