See if they can give you any specs on the stuff; the important one to compare is the density. I think 703 is 3# per cubic foot, so try and determine if the safing (as in fire-safing) is similar. If it is, it should work OK.

j Three hinges is probably enough if you don't do the overlay, but make sure you use ball-bearing hinges with the closer; it'll operate better. I see people refer to adding layers to doors, and would be real interested to know how well it actually works; if you add a layer to the push (non-hinge) si...

magic Some of this depends on your budget for doing the doors, and how much of the work you plan to do yourself. You can buy prefab doors from a lumberyard that have better than standard seals for reasonable amounts and even get them with a drop-down seal pre-installed if need be. Not perfect, but a...

supa What does the room need? Isolation? Treatment? Impact noise reduction from outside sources? HVAC treatment? No slight to the other posters, but "build a floating platform" may be a waste if the room needs something else; it can certainly help isolation if that's needed, but it sounds like you n...

Not scary; lot's of fun, in fact. Kinda nice to be somewhere and see folks just hanging out and having fun, instead of demonstrating how cool they are. I'll go back for sure.

The Squire: "It's Not Scary in Here Anymore!"

I swear they had that on a sign out front a few months ago when new owners took over. I haven' been yet, though; I'm too scared.

magic I'd agree w/ norton (and respectfully disagree with junkshop) that you should build better wall assemblies instead of spending extra $ on insulation if isolation is your concern. With that much room for wall thickness, I'd skip the greenglue, too, and just use an extra layer (or 2) of drywall,...

703 panels for trade in Denver

I've got 6 3'x7' 703 panels of 2" material for trade. These are pro-made units from a movie theater remodel, and have wine red Guilford cloth already on the face of 'em and light metal frames ready for hanging. I've got a roof rack on my car, so I can deliver if needed. I'm looking for light but stu...

The site should have more news, along with schedules, panelist info and more real soon. We're on for real in 08, and hoping for...

Solo Again with the killjoy routine: jwl's suggestion about filling the joist bays w/ drywall is good, except for the fact that it doesn't take into account the added load of the drywall. Any house old enough to have a 6 1/2 ft. basement ceiling probably has 2x8 (or even 2x6) floor joists, so be sur...

Clarify that price, will ya, I can't read your shorthand. If it's 6 pieces of 2" x 4' x 8' for $79, that's only 41 cents /sq ft, which seems reasonable.
