I'm not sure that we can prevent it. But that doesn't mean having to cooperate with it. I guess it's hard to explain the whole privacy thing to someone who hasn't had their privacy violated, or worked for the government, or a large agency, but I've dealt with all three, and I'm not a big fan of the...

in my opinion, wilco is totally aimed at "adults". example: there is a print ad for their new album in a recent issue of the New Yorker. and if by "adult" you mean "somebody over age 35 who wants to hear new bands/styles every year", in my opinion, the stuff that's played on stations like KEXP and K...

FWIW, in my opinion the spotify-FB deal per se is not particularly troubling with regards to privacy and so forth

Why not just make an account for facebook that has no pictures or info and just use it to sign in with Spotify. No big deal, problem solved. I guess because they can put "tracking cookies" on your computer and find where you are and come to your house and....... uh.... All of these privacy violatio...

And, Re: Facebook privacy concerns.... I could set up a Facebook account in less than 5 minutes that contains ZERO private personal information about me, and links to ZERO friends. This could allow me to access Spotify with ZERO concerns for privacy. *ahem* tracking cookies. algorithmic facial reco...

this spotify-facebook deal happened because sean parker (dude played by justin timberlake in 'the social network', billionaire you rarely hear about in the media at least compared to mark zuckerberg, onetime napster cofounder or some shit) owns a fairly large stake in spotify. parker has repeatedly ...

i have had a few different sansa players that can run rockbox (from http://www.rockbox.org/ ) installation is sometimes confusing at first, but the result is a fully configurable player that can handle any codec you throw at it. I just got another sansa clip+ at amazon for like 40 bucks, for when my...

The funny thing is: there is a Raconteurs song with some very audible cellphone interference within the first 2 seconds or so. I forget which song. Anybody else ever notice this?

FIRST!!!!!!!!!! I emailed Apogee a few years ago asking: why not write some windows drivers for the Duet? They responded quickly but of course the answer was "HELL NO" anyway. I'd totally rock the Solo if it were windows-friendly. I have been wondering whether the Solo converters are the same chip a...

Last time I had a battery-related question about a CAD mic, I emailed the company and they got back to me in about an hour. That wasn't so long ago, although it must have been a few years ago since I can't remember what I asked them. Anyway, I bet they can set you straight on this.
