Logic 7.1 crashing constantly
Is anyone else having trouble running Logic 7.1? Particularly in 24/96 mode? We can't seem to get through a day without having things lock up or just crap out. We're doing post stuff primarily, so there is imported video running, but this machine (dual 2.5 G5 8g RAM) shouldn't have any trouble. And ...

There's a fellow (or maybe former) TapeOp'er who has a one room setup that I've always loved.

It looks like he's blocked off the "control room" a bit more recently, but it's still all one space, and gorgeous.

Firewire and PCI intercaces on mac?
OK. I'm using OSX and running Logic 7.1, first off. I'm trying to add a PCI interface (lynx aurora) to our studio's existing firewire (MOTU 24 i/0) setup. There doesn't appear to by any way to set this up in Logic, so I'm guessing there's some way to "cascade" the interfaces in the AudioMIDI setup? ...

That's great and all, but when you have paying clients who say "make it sound like a nickleback record" it's nice to be able to do what they're asking for. If I had my way, I'd only record bands that had the same musical aesthetic as I do (not to mention huge budgets and minimal sales goals). Then w...

We use JBL 4310s, which were available in the 1960s. They're big, darker than our nearfields, and my favorite speakers to use. At the moment we're powering them with a Zvex impamp, but we're looking for something a little beefier since we do a lot of electronic music, and it has a tendency to break ...

I've been getting to the "off-brand" cymbals latelt. Meinl, Bosphorus, Istanbul, etc... Cheaper than the big 3, and quality is easily as good. But I still love Ks and K Customs. Look around in pawn shops and used store for oddball stuff, too. I bought a crappy old Camber 22" ride that I use as a cra...

We generally just let them know it's available. Let them play around on the stuff before the session, on the little "tour" we do and during production meetings (if there are any). A lot of times, they'll be excited to play with new toys and ask to use them. I certainly never push anyone to use somet...

It's been several years of trial and error. Until recently, I never got paid more than a case of beer for my services, so I had the freedom to goof around and stick weird mics in weird places and try weird setups. Most of the time, that just taught me that the old standbys are there for a reason, bu...
