Pres: is variety really a good thing?

Hey guys and gals. I?m pretty new around here so forgive me if we?ve done this one already? It seems like these days everyone is into having a bunch of different pres for different flavors. On the other hand, back in the day, stuff usually got recorded through the same pres (i.e. a desk) and those r...

I just put one together for my band where I created a five minute medley out of about 7 or 8 different songs. We wanted to give an idea of our range of sounds, but knew that no one was going to listen to 7 or 8 songs.

I think with the time aligning, short of fixing actual problems, you're really just playing with texture vs. focus. It sounds to me like you may prefer the latter to the former. I would just suggest that you make sure that you're doing it because of how it sounds to you, and not because of how it lo...

I would think that it depends on whether or not you like the sound of the drums in the room. If you do then go with it, if you don?t then try to get rid of the sound of the room. Hanging the sheets like you mentioned would be a good start.

Personally I think it?s a godsend. Not so much to delay a decision, but getting to worry about fewer things at once when you are doing it all yourself. Playing the part while you dial in the tone, while you audition mics and mic positions, ect. is a pain in the ass! Playing a bit of the part into th...

...From what I have heard, which has been kicking around the internet for a few years now, is that there was a lot of reamping going on in the 1970s in the studio with Steely Dan. And the reason for this was the fact that there were so many guitar takes that amps would crap out, so getting a direct...

Oh I love this plug-in, but I don't think it can be added to a Master fader?
I used to think that too, but I've found that if you add it before you get going and mix through it rather than trying to strap it on near the end of the mix it works out MUCH better.

I think I bought my Radial ProRMP for just under $100. Well worth it. Getting your tone with out having to play at the same time? I'll buy that for $100. :P
